Why Is that “Terrible” Anti-McCain Attack Ad Still Being Hosted on Obama Campaign Site?

Yesterday Joe Biden appeared on CBS Evening News and told a bit of a face saving fib if the campaign’s actions, or lack thereof, are any indication.

During that interview Katie Couric chummed up to Biden and asked him to comment on the negative nature of the campaign between the two parties. In particular she mentioned a disparaging ad that mocked McCain’s age and inability to use a computer. An ad that drew cries of ageism while critics stated that Obama was making light of McCain’s war injuries that prevented him from using a computer with any sort of ease.

In response Biden uttered the now famous, the ad was “terrible” and that it would not have been done had he known about it. The only problem, the ad is still being hosted front and center on the Obama campaign website.

Couric also allowed Biden to morph that touching moment of Democratic introspection into another attack on McCain by stating the ridiculous “having now reviewed the ad, it is even more clear to me that given the disgraceful tenor of Sen. McCain’s ads and their persistent falsehoods, his campaign is in no position to criticize.”

Yup, Biden realized how negative the McCain campaign was being by watching his campaign’s own attack ad against McCain. A stretch of the imagination to be sure. But hey, this is Joe Biden, his world view is a stretch of the imagination by most any account.

Knowing that the ad is still being hosted on the Obama-Biden campaign site allows us to infer that either Biden still does not have anything to do with the Obama campaign or that he simply blurts out anything in efforts to make himself and Obama appear more presidential than they really are.

Put that in your gaffe pipe and smoke it.
