Why Do They Hate Us?

I was on the road this weekend and had the opportunity to watch CNN’s coverage of “Terror in the Skies“. Well, sort of. I was actually watching “Anderson Cooper’s 360″ extension of such coverage wrapped up in a “In the Footsteps of Bin Laden” segment.
A couple of things struck me as odd. First, why is Anderson Cooper still asking the question as to why the terrorists hate us? The context was in response to an inteview with a Muslim women who was proud that her husband was killed following the orders of Bin Laden. She wasn’t proud that he was killed in a manner that prevented him from following out those orders. No. She was proud that he died as a martyr for the cause against the West.
The realistic responses to this particular question are few in my mind. The kind of hate we are up against is taught. It is a societal requirement in many Muslim communities, mosques and nations. Islamofascists have used Western values and American success as a convenient excuse to preach hate. Hate is systematically taught from an early age. Call it brain washing or indoctrination if you like. Whatever you call it you should understand that young minds have been wired with that hate. That hate will be very hard if not impossible to overcome.
No matter what you call it you should have the basic understanding that religion has been mixed with politics for ages. It is nothing new.
Those who want to blame George Bush for these problems are the most egregious in demonstrating their lack of understanding or use of selective memory.
But I have a theory as to why people in the mainstream media ask this question. Liberals are often been burdened by their own need to understand the more sensitive side of hate. On this particular brand of hate they are obsessed with finding a causal relationship between that hate and U.S. foreign policy. Every form of hate must have developed in the presence of some trauma at the hands of an opportunistic bully. In this case the bully is the United States and her allies.
This allows them to look past other more obvious explanations. The mere possibility that Islamofascists could have used this as an excuse to preach hate is dismissed. Why? Because they know it to be so; it has to be our fault.
When Anderson Cooper asked this question of Christaine Amonpour he was looking for an answer along those lines. He was looking for any way to tie the terror in the skies to current U.S. foreign policy.
The response by Amonpour was as ridiculous as the question. She went on to explain how Osama bin Laden is attractive, almost beautiful. Of course she went on to explain that this was not her particular belief; just the beliefs of those who follow bin Laden. Very Mike Wallaceish if I say so myself.
All of this leads me to the point of this post. Why should we trust liberals to lead this nation if they can’t answer these questions themselves some 5 years after 9/11? This is the question they don’t want you to ask. But it is also the question that needs to be posed to those who feel they have a better plan. That plan could very well spell the demise of the way of life as we know it.
