Well that didn’t take long. President Bush just announced Donald Rumsfeld’s replacement. Former CIA Director Robert Gates has been announced as the new man to serve the country as Secretary of Defense. Dr. Gates is the current President of Texas A&M University and was the Deputy Director of the CIA from 1991 until 1993. He worked under 6 different Presidents in the intelligence community with a career that spanned over 25 years.
WASHINGTON — President Bush said Wednesday Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is stepping down and former CIA Director Robert Gates will take over at the Pentagon and in prosecuting the war in Iraq.

Sends Message to Terrorists
The Senate must still confirm him but I imagine that they will take no time in replacing Donald Rumsfeld. This will of course be a true test. Keep in mind that Gates was the Deputy Director of the CIA during the Iran Contra affair. He was never indicted although some believe that his role put him in a position to have known about the activities surrounding the scandal.
Besides working in the CIA Mr. Gates also worked as the Deputy Director for Intelligence, served on the National Security Council, was Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, and was Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Adviser. He also spent two years in the air force.
President Bush also sent a message to the terrorists “To our enemies, do not be joyful. Do not confuse the working of our democracy with a lack of will. Our nation is committed to bringing you to justice.”
