The Vilification of Anglo America

Immigration DebateI have had a whole day to consume the events of Monday’s rally for the rights of illegal immigrants. My mood is reserved although I am more put off now than I was earlier yesterday morning. There is so much information to absorb that I thought it best to step back and churn over the many themes that have been thrown at us by the mainstream media and those politicians that support the creation of a new voting block based on the illegal influx of people across the American border.

It is only fair that I direct my ire at the parties who are responsible for this mess; namely the politicians who allowed this to go on for so long.

Essentially I feel as if I am watching the betrayal of legal hard working American citizens by elected officials. They are sending the message that breaking into this country doesn’t matter as long as you come into this country with a family of votes.

I was thankful that the American boycott was peaceful for the most part. But beneath that relief I am mad as hell at the pandering politicians and those who flout the law with their “I am illegal; so what!” tee shirts.

The people of this country have offered the illegals the world; something that no other country would do. In return for this offering we are being told that we are the ones who are being uncompassionate.

Let us briefly look at the lack of compassion that the American taxpayer has shown toward the illegal immigrant.

  • Some states now offer in state tuition to illegal immigrants and their families. Something not afforded legal residents who live a mere 1 inch over the state line.
  • Illegal immigrants, who somehow lost the label illegal, get low interest rates and subsidized home loans as long as they register using their Mexican consulate matricula card.
  • Our schools have taken in the children of illegal immigrants. The cost is on us. But then again, what would you expect from us selfish Americans.
  • Selfish uncompassionate Americans have sat idly by and dial 1 for English while the government created an environment that caters to both English and Spanish speaking individuals.
  • U.S. hospitals will treat any illegal immigrant and his or her family if they need medical attention. We will provide them social and medical services; all courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer.
  • Our police will patrol streets that house illegal immigrants and we will house those who are homeless.

The list goes on. Illegal immigrants are afforded the same basic rights as most legal Americans. In some cases they are offered preferential treatment as in the tuition supplement.

All in all I would say that Americans are quite the opposite of what was presented to the world courtesy of the vacuous and inept media.

Nevertheless politicians such as U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) lead the pack with blame America first rhetoric. “This is not just a march. You are setting a newer pathway to a more democratic, more compassionate America.”

Even Cardinal George joined in on the charade. “Respect is the reason we are together this afternoon,” George said. “People who have been part of this country’s social and economic fabric for years should not now be treated as if they do not count, as if their contribution can simply be dismissed and they [can be] sent away.”

Who exactly is treating these people in such a way?

I know that the immigrant population is a hard working group of people who contribute immensely to this country. I have worked all my life and come across many of them. In fact they aren’t the slackers you see in the streets protesting with their George Bush is Hitler signs and no war for oil chants. They have jobs and are in many ways preferable.

But that doesn’t give them the right to demand a free pass. It does not imply that we should keep our borders open for drugs, crime and terrorists; all of which are elements that come across the same border as illegal aliens.

I hope the republicans are paying attention. Monday was a slap in the face to the hard working compassionate citizens of this country. Mine is not the voice of a single conservative. In case any of the elected Republican leadership has forgotten, conservative is spelled V-O-T-I-N-G B-A-S-E. This fact was reflected in your trip to office and is now reflected in your dismal approval ratings. The basement is not far away. It’s up to you to find the ladder.
