Those of us 1980’s heads remember the curious case of Manute Bol. The African Dinka tribesman
with the courage and presence of mind to kill a lion with a spear (while only 15 years old) was discovered for basketball, eventually becoming the tallest NBA player. While we in the United States know him solely through basketball, what he has done with himself after his sports career is truly the stuff of legends and heroes. His Christian people had lived in peace in southern Sudan, until the Muslims decided to pasteurize the country into their mold.
Bol and his best friend went to over 39 Congressmen personally and met with the Pentagon in the 90’s telling them that their people were being decimated by the Arab Muslims from the North and would disappear if the US did not help. He said they got nothing. His friend said he told the US the greatest threat they would face in the future would be from Islamist Fundamentalism, at which most laughed.
So Manute reached into his own pockets in the millions to help support the starving refugees who had witnessed their homes and families destroyed.
