Thanks For Singing

It is nice to see entertainers who come out and support the troops. Singers like Beccy Cole are rare and refreshing, quite unlike the Dixie Chicks who can’t seem to Shut Up and Sing or Roger Waters who feels the need to charge $150 a ticket for his Bush Derangement Syndrome concert tour.

Via Black Five, Flopping Aces and Hot Air comes word of the Australian Country Music star who has taken a bit of flack for supporting the troops. Hence we support her.

The following video is from her number one Country Music Channel hit called “Poster Girl“. The clip was filmed in Sydney Australia at the Paddington Army barracks that was built by convicts in the mid 1800’s.

Beccy Cole. Australian Country Music Star.

“Poster Girl” was written when Beccy returned from entertaining the troops in the Middle East over the Christmas and New Year period and found a letter from a fan who didn’t agree with Australia’s participation in the war. Beccy has previously commented:

“I have a huge amount of respect for our forces and I’m very proud of the great job they are doing over there. Our job was to provide an entertaining break from their grueling routine and from all reports, we succeeded. I’m happy to report that morale is high amongst the Aussies and if their hard work and commitment is anything to go by, peace in the Middle East is achievable”

A number of Australian artists recently came forward to explain why they would not perform for our troops in Iraq (FF: Shame!). As artists and as Australians, it is of course their right to express their views and decide where and when they want to perform (FF: They wouldn’t have that right in pre-liberation Iraq).

However, I agree with Angry Anderson when he said, in a recent radio interview with Charles Woolley, that performing in Iraq is about supporting our troops, not making a political stance.

Angry was one of a number of artists who generously spent last Christmas and New Year in Iraq as part of the Tour de Force concert tour. In his interview last week, Angry said that while he was in Iraq, he was struck by the amount of support the Americans and English appeared to get from their populations at home.

One of the best messages of support for our personnel that I have seen or heard was delivered by Beccy Cole, one of Angry’s fellow Tour de Force performers. Having been to Iraq but then, unfortunately, encountering negative reaction from a fan for having gone, she penned Poster Girl (Wrong Side of the World) – a fantastic song that recently went to Number 1 on the Country charts:
