Thank God for Texas

Via Michelle Malkin comes the most excellent news that Texas put to death an illegal immigrant that raped and murdered two teens 15 years ago. Forbes carried the story but neglected to mention the illegal alien fact.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Texas has executed Mexican-born condemned prisoner Jose Medellin for the rape and murder of two teenage girls 15 years ago.
The state carried out the execution late Tuesday night after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his request for a reprieve in a split vote.
Mexican born yes, but worse, enabled by open border advocates in the government to stay in the country illegally to rape and murder two innocent teens.

Medellin was born in Mexico but spent much of his childhood in the United States. He was 18 in June 1993, when he and other members of the Black and Whites gang in Houston encountered Jennifer Ertman and Elizabeth Pena on a railroad trestle as the girls were taking a shortcut home.
Ertman, 14, and Pena, 16, were gang-raped and strangled. Their bodies were found four days later.
Medellin was arrested a few days after the killings. He was told he had a right to remain silent and have a lawyer present, but the police did not tell him that he could request assistance from the Mexican consulate under the 1963 treaty.
Medellin gave a written confession. He was convicted of murder in the course of a sexual assault, a capital offense in Texas. A judge sentenced him to death in October 1994.
Unfortunately one of the animals will be allowed to walk free after 40 years behind bars because he was a juvenile at the time. Thankfully however it is Jose Ernesto Medellin’s brother. He can rot in jail for the next 25 or so years thinking about his dead brother. It’s not the best sentence and it doesn’t return the teen girls to their parents but it is the best we can hope for in the face of a system so ass backwards that a rapist and murderer of children can be put back on the streets because he was 14 at the time of the crime.
