Senate Votes To Surrender In Iraq

Harry Reid led the effort to hand our enemies another moral victory as the Senate passed legislation this afternoon that would require the start of troop withdrawals by October 1st.

The jubilant AP characterizes the American surrender effort as “defiant”. Not quite the term I’d use.

Senator Byrd announced the loss as an official statement of matter.

“The president has failed in his mission to bring peace and stability to the people of Iraq,” said Sen. Robert Byrd (news, bio, voting record), D-W.V., chairman of the Appropriations Committee. He later added: “It’s time to bring our troops home from Iraq.”

Chuck Hagel, a usual suspect when it comes to siding with Democrats did so again along with Gordon Smith. No Democrats crossed the line in the Senate but Joe Lieberman voiced his opposition to the Dem cut and run initiative.

“We delude ourselves if we think we can wave a legislative wand and suddenly our troops in the field will be able to distinguish between al-Qaida terrorism or sectarian violence. Or that Iraqis will suddenly settle their political differences because our troops are leaving,” Lieberman said.

The Bill now goes back to President Bush on Tuesday where it will be vetoed without question.

Tuesday of course is significant because the idiots in the Senate think that sending a surrender Bill to the Presidents desk will have some sort of resonance as it coincides with the anniversary of the President’s mission accomplished speech in 2003. The press is already sapping that up.

They are right though, it does resonate; only with me it is with anger. The democrats said all along they had a plan. Now we know what that plan is. Despite their lies and campaign promises not to cut and run April 25th and 26th of 2007 has shown the American people that Democrats in Congress are the party of America’s enemies.
