Quotes From the ‘Sad Sack’ Would Be Terrorists

The NY Times was right on cue when it managed to find the following quote from an unnamed authority in reporting on the terrorist plan to blow up JFK and surrounding houses:
One law enforcement official played down Mr. Defreitas’s ability to carry out an attack, calling him “a sad sack” and “not a Grade A terrorist.”
Of course this is what we’d expect from the Times; especially since key Democrats such as John Edwards believe the War on Terror is simply a bumper sticker for the convenience of George Bush.
Be that as it may the NY Times seems to be standing on its own with this one. ABC News is reporting that these “sad sacks” may have had access to top al-Qaeda leaders according to some recorded conversations.
FBI agents feared but never confirmed the three men accused of plotting to attack John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York were linked to one of the most wanted al Qaeda leaders, Adnan Shukrijumah, known to have operated out of Guyana and Trinidad.
Officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com that they heard repeated references to “Adnan” during the extensive wiretaps conducted on the suspects’ telephone conversations, including calls to Guyana and Trinidad.
There is a $5 million reward for information on Shukrijumah, who officials consider extremely dangerous because of the years he spent living in the Miami area and his known ties to al Qaeda. Some of the 9/ll hijackers attended a south Florida mosque run by Shukrijumah’s now deceased father.
Law enforcement officials are still searching for one of the planners in Trinidad and U.S. officials have been working from the inside on this case for about 2 years. Most sad sacks don’t have the means or the access to pull together a plan such as this. They were soliciting money and the aid of other sad sacks who just might have been able to pull the bombing off. Even when the NY Times reports on the facts they can’t help but sow the seeds of doubt - how’s that for American journalism, could the Times possibly get any lower?
Here are some of the quotes from the terrorists:
- “Any time you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States,” Mr Defreitas said, according to a recording played to reporters.
“To hit John F Kennedy, wow… they love John F Kennedy like he’s the man… if you hit that, this whole country will be in mourning. You can kill the man twice.” (BBC)
- “Even the twin towers can’t touch it,” referring to the attack on the World Trade Centre in New York City on 11 September 2001 that killed more than 3,000 people.
“This can destroy the economy of America for some time,” Mr Defreitas was alleged to have said. (BBC)“Muslims always incur the wrath of the world while the Jews get a pass.” (abc news)
- The criminal complaint indicates that many conversations were recorded between informants, the arrested plotters and sources tied to planning who would have been integral in carrying out the plot. Some of the conversations included:
- “Can I ask you a question. Would you like to die as a martyr?”
- Defreitas “wanted to do something to get those bastards”, referring to the United States because of its aid to Israel.

Defreitas after boasting that he had been taught to make bombs in Guyana

Defreitas again with plans.
Even though the New York Times looks desperately for disclaimers and other media outlets emphasize the lack of technical savvy held by the terrorists we can see that it was a plan in the works. Pretty good work for a bumper sticker.

Nice post. Shukrijumah has long been thought by the FBI to be in or around the Hamilton Ontario area, where McMaster University just happens to have a huge nuclear reactor and many of the professors are Muslim and thought to have terrorist ties. That’s just a jump away from NY. I’m waiting for the “they were such good boys”, but since the ring leader was 56, I don’t guess that applies.
Guyana is neighbors with Venezuela, who aids illegals in getting false documents and also getting to the Mexican/US border, so they can get into the US. Coincidence? I think not.
I continually wonder if the left, particularly the Democrats in Congress haven’t put them selves into an untenable position by courting the far left so heavily.
What will they do if we actually pull off a coup and manage not to lose the war on terror despite their best efforts?
Of course we all know it would be Bush’s fault if they actually managed to blow up any part of JFK. Strange how it’s not to his credit that they were caught.
