President Bush Vetoes Surrender Bill While Democrats Celebrate Failure

President Bush formally sent the Democrat surrender bill back to Congress with his veto pen. Meanwhile Democrats actually celebrated the fact that they would prefer to leave Iraq in a dire situation and declare a loss in the war rather than actually do something American; such as win.
WASHINGTON - President Bush vetoed legislation to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq Tuesday night in a historic showdown with Congress over whether the unpopular and costly war should end or escalate.
In only the second veto of his presidency, Bush rejected legislation pushed by Democratic leaders that would require the first U.S. combat troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by Oct. 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later.
“This is a prescription for chaos and confusion and we must not impose it on our troops,” Bush said in a nationally broadcast statement from the White House. He said the bill would “mandate a rigid and artificial deadline” for troop pullouts, and “it makes no sense to tell the enemy when you plan to start withdrawing.”
Democrats accused Bush of ignoring American’s desire to stop the war, which has claimed the lives of more than 3,350 members of the military.
The words of the lying surrender monkey leaders in the Democrat party should resonate with ever American like a bitter pill. At a time when they should be hanging their heads low they actually staged a celebratory event to honor what every rational thinking person thinks would be a terrible mistake.
The Democratic leaders staged a special ceremony to send the legislation—already approved by both the House and Senate—on its way to the White House.
On Wednesday, Bush is to meet at the White House with congressional leaders from both parties, including Reid, D-Nev., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to begin discussing follow-up spending legislation.
“This legislation honors the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform,” Pelosi said at the ceremony in the Capitol. She said that provisions of the measure respect “the wishes of the American people to end the Iraq war.”
Said Reid: “After more than four years of a failed policy, it’s time for Iraq to take responsibility for its own future. Today, right now, we renew our call to President Bush: There is still time to listen. There is still time to sign this bill and change course in Iraq.”
Anti-American Senators like the corrupt Harry Reid have ignored every person that has said that to leave Iraq would create a worse situation. Pundits and military minds, regardless of political persuasion or the stance on whether or not we should have gone there in the first place recognize and acknowledge this. Yet Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have asked Democrats to stay the course on failure.
I believe that Americans are sick of the war. But the way to get out of Iraq is to win the war; not concede defeat with a plan that plays right into the hands of Al-Qaeda and Iran. Funny how the press often has polls yet rarely do Americans get asked that critical question. Do you want the United States to leave Iraq even if it strengthens al-Qaeda and plays into Iran’s plans? Not one pundit has asked Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi anything remotely close to this question; nor has it been asked of Americans. It wouldn’t matter anyway because Reid and Pelosi would either lie about it or avoid the question altogether.
This is the most shameful Congress we have seen in decades. American’s should hang their heads in shame for electing such pathetic losers to power.
Update: Ed Morrissey at Captain’s Quarters covered the effects the delay will have on the military. Despite the claims to the contrary, the Democrat’s political theater will translate to a very real and detrimental affect on the troops.
It should be fairly obvious to anyone who has worked in a large organization — and especially in government and the DoD — that money can’t just be shifted around overnight. It takes a great deal of accounting and oversight to manage the funds, and moving it around requires freezing spening until the money gets transferred to where it is needed. It will cost a fortune to accomplish this, degrading our readiness and halting projects all across the board.
It’s a Mickey Mouse solution to a problem that Congress created, and all the Democrats can do is to tell the Army to blow millions of dollars while it plays politics with the war.
