Reid, Schumer and Durbin smile for the Camera after announcing the
all night session (stunt) to debate the 2008 defense authorization Bill
Is that a betting slip in Reids hand? He looks like he just picked the trifecta at the OTB.
The smile on the faces of these three lackluster leaders pretty much says it all. This is how they approach the serious issue of the war in Iraq. Comfy in their multi-million dollar homes, air conditioned offices and liberal vacation schedules while they debate the fate of our soldiers overseas.
Harry Reid announced that the Democrats plan to hold an all night session in response to a Republican lead filibuster on the Levin-Reed amendment portion of bill H.R. 1585, the 2008 Defense Authorization bill. Imagine that, a real filibuster. But don’t worry, Reid said it will only last one night.
Dick Durbin, always one to to slither up to the camera with some completely asinine statement made the following remark:
“How many sleepless nights have our soldiers and their families had?” Sen. Dick Durbin, No. 2 in the Democratic leadership, said Monday.
Durbin is obviously the last person that should comment on soldiers feelings after his gulag remark. But we should entertain the thought and think about that question for a minute. The soldiers and their families probably have had many sleepless nights wondering if their own government, as lead by the likes of Dick Durbin and Jack Murtha, was going to brand them as Vietnam style baby killers. The obstructionist Democrats have been perpetual bullet counters in their quest to use the soldiers as pawns in a politically motivated war against the Bush administration. So yes, sleepless would be an understatement.
The Democrats have never supported the war or even entertained the prospect of success in Iraq and now they are debating ways to officially surrender. That would give any soldier and his or her family sleepless nights. At least during WWII the soldiers knew they had the backing of the government; one that actually rallied for the war by building up public support instead of against it in an effort to score political points.
Winning a war is a foreign concept to these people. Their whole platform is based on losing and losers. So Democrats do the next insincere thing. They smile for the camera and pretend that they give a crap.
Want to end the war? Try supporting the effort to win for a change. You’d be amazed what can be accomplished if only you had the will to try.
