Obama Flip Flops: Running Scared From Unscripted Debates, John McCain

Barack Obama may go down in history as being the most successful candidate to never say or do anything of substance yet be touted as just the opposite. I say “may” because that pretty much sums up the consistency of a Democrat politician in today’s world of rudderless pols that can barely bother showing up for duty let alone doing anything worthwhile while on the job.

As for Barack Obama it is painfully clear that the Queen of the Democratic ball is running from John McCain to prevent this election from being a referendum on he who thinks he walks on water. The AP reports the flip flop as follows:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic candidate Barack Obama on Saturday backed away from rival John McCain’s challenge for a series of joint appearances, agreeing only to the standard three debates in the fall.

In May, when a McCain adviser proposed a series of pre-convention appearances at town hall meetings, Obama said, “I think that’s a great idea.” In summer stumping on the campaign trail, McCain has often noted that Obama had not followed through and joined him in any events.

Obama’s reversal on town hall debates is part of a play-it-safe strategy he’s adopted since claiming the nomination and grabbing a lead in national polls. Advisers to the Illinois senator, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss strategy, say Obama is reluctant to take chances or give McCain a high-profile stage now that Obama’s the front-runner.

Play it safe, as in don’t do anything to show the people who he really is. Town Hall style debates are much less scripted than those that protect Obama via the safety net of the mainstream media. Gosh, imagine that Barack Obama might be subject to the whims of people in the audience that might just veer from the script.

In other words Barack Obama doesn’t want to answer questions for you, me or any other American that lives outside the protective bubble that was erected by the embarrassingly adolescent groupies that are known as the mainstream media. Obama would rather have that idiot Chris Matthews blubbering on about the chill that Obama sends up his leg or the equally obtuse Keith Olberman screaming into the camera about President Bush’s short comings as interpreted by the nutroots.

As is typical of the Obama campaign, playing it safe means no answer at all.

Asked by The Associated Press if that meant Obama would not agree to any other debates, Psaki said, “We’re not saying that.” She said the McCain campaign had rejected Obama’s proposal for two joint town hall meetings.

Lie. How can you back away and then blame it on the one that proposed the debates in the first place?

And get this, in typical AP tradition the twist is that John McCain “is disparaging” Barack Obama for falling back on his word.

McCain’s campaign disparaged Obama for backing off. McCain has not yet formally agreed to the commission-sponsored debates, but the McCain campaign says he plans to.

“We understand it might be beneath a worldwide celebrity of Barack Obama’s magnitude to appear at town hall meetings alongside John McCain and directly answer questions from the American people, but we hope he’ll reconsider,” spokesman Brian Rogers said.

This is what the AP considers as disparaged? The only thing disparaging about this whole thing is that the Obama campaign thinks you are too stupid to read between the lines. A disparaging close second is the AP for existing in print in the first place. They are nothing more than second rate hacks that wouldn’t know journalistic protocol if it sneaked up and bit them in the ass.

So much for change. Obama is anything but. In fact he is a step backward.
