Now Go Away or I will Taunt You a Second Time

Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, Al Qaeda leader in Iraq has issued a statement (not yet authenticated) taunting President Bush and suggesting the American voters made a proper decision in last week’s elections. It is now up to the Democrats to prove him wrong.
At one point the speaker praised U.S. voters for handing victory to the Democrats, saying: “They voted for something reasonable in the last elections.”
Interesting within the article is Muhajir’s statement that Jihad will not rest until they blow up the White House, which would indicate that pulling all the troops out of Iraq would do nothing to change the murderous and fanatical outlook of Al Qaeda and in my estimation; it would in fact embolden them further. The Democrats were endorsed by Al Qaeda in the run up to the election because of their public stance against the war in Iraq. This is not saying that they support Al Qaeda though defunding the war would be doing so by proxy. No doubt the President and current administration has made tactical errors in the war but those are more easily pointed out with the liberal use of hindsight more than any knowledge beforehand. Considering that Congress authorized the action and the UN allowed it through resolution, it was not the completely unilateral war that people mischaracterize it to be. The weakness of Germany, France and later, Spain [tag]should not be repeated by the United States. To pull out would in fact present the first real parallel between Iraq and the Vietnam War with our abandonment leaving a country helpless and the innocent to get slaughtered by the totalitarians who wish to impose despotic rule. Let us not forget, the vast majority of civilian deaths in Iraq to date have been caused by the terrorists and not the American military. We need not repeat that mistake.
