New Low For Pelosi Leadership, Breakdown in House

Update: House Majority leader Steny Hoyer apologized this morning for the events that led up to last night’s Republican walkout and suggested having the House Ethics Committee look to determine whether or not anything was out of order. Rep. Hoyer said that the majority was rightfully angry as they would be if the situation were reversed.
For the Democrats part they are saying that the Democrat chair called the vote at 214-214 but that the official tally changed to favor the Republicans when it was closed by 215-213, a result that would have sent the bill back to committee.
From the Republicans point of view they note that 215-213 number was in fact the number visible on the electronic board when the vote was closed. Hence the conclusion is that the final vote tally favored the Republicans before Democrats tried to reopen the vote in an effort that would have resulted in a Democrat win by a vote of 216-212.
Everything stems from the fact that members on both sides of the aisle changed their original votes after reading the outcome and perhaps getting pressure from their respective leadership. What a shame that Congress operates in such a scurrilous manner. None of this acrimony is new. What is new however is the fact that Democrats tried to re-open a vote after the final tally showed a favorable outcome for the minority Republicans.
Each party has a bit of validity to their arguments but the procedural point probably would have favored Republicans based on the final tally on the board at the time the vote was closed.

It appears that the Democrats were allegedly caught trying to pulling a fast one last night after trying to reverse a vote that they lost on an agriculture appropriations bill. The sticking point was an expansion of entitlement programs for illegal immigrants, including housing and other items that would otherwise be allocated to needy American citizens such as recipients of the WIC program that supplies food and products to single women with children.
The Republicans added language to prevent taxpayer funds that would be committed under the bill from going to illegal immigrants.
The House voted in a result that was favorable for Republicans and the Democrat chair closed the call when the electronic tally came in favor of the minority. But then it appears that Democrats tried to change the tally after the roll call had been closed. The result was a shouting match between Representatives on both side of the aisle until the Republicans walked out of the chamber in protest.
The topper: Politico is reporting that “The House eventually recessed at 11:18, but Republicans quickly discovered that there was no longer any record of the controversial vote and immediately charged Democrats with erasing the bad result.”
So in essence the agenda driven leaderless Democrats are trying to pull a fast one. Thankfully there is video of the whole event (h/t The Corner at National Review).
Currently Republicans are taking turns at the podium to convey their outrage.
