More Attacks on Religion, the GOP and Bush from the MSM via the Washington Post (who else?)

It is hard to avoid name calling when confronted with the liberal elite and the articles they put forth as fact in the mainstream media. However the Washington Post article headlined How the GOP Became Gods Own Party is quite possibly one of the stupidest and most insignificant articles I have read in recent times.
“Eminent” author, Kevin Phillips, has achieved something that has become quite a badge of honor for the mainstream media these days; he put the M in myth. Isn’t it interesting to see how revered ex-republicans are once they turn on President Bush and the GOP? Attack those of faith in the same breath and you become exalted.
We have seen much along these lines recently. The recent “study” on prayer and the sick was covered spastically by just about every liberal beacon out there from the NY Times to the LA Times. It was with a certain sense of ignorance that these articles neglected the tenets of faith and the very real beliefs of the faithful that God’s plan may be contrary to personal prayer. Prayer is a discussion of faith, between you and your God. It is not an online catalog.
This latest attack on religion and the GOP is more of the same; with a twist. We have an ex-Nixon aide saying it, a defector from the GOP who was an “independent” supporter of John Kerry.
The following statement from the reportorial sums it up.
Today, a leading power such as the United States approaches theocracy when it meets the conditions currently on display: an elected leader who believes himself to speak for the Almighty, a ruling political party that represents religious true believers, the certainty of many Republican voters that government should be guided by religion and, on top of it all, a White House that adopts agendas seemingly animated by biblical worldviews.
Let me dispel the misleading characterizations in this quote before I venture any further. Eighty percent of Americans are Christians according to the census bureau, 5.2% make up the rest of all religions combined, and 15% make up religious non-believers. Thus as you can see, every ruling party in the United States represents religious true believers; even the democrat party. (Update – added Source – Census Bureau/Wikipedia – Self-Described Religious Identification of U.S. Adult Population: 1990 and 2001)
Phillips also seems oblivious to the goals of Islamic fascism as he states his belief that the administration’s agendas are animated by biblical worldviews. I hate to point out the obvious here because nobody can be this dense but there is an underlying current of religion in a holy jihad against the United States and Western culture.
Phillips’ belief that many Republican voters believe that government should be guided by religion is pure paranoia. When dissecting this disconnect from reality we can see how truly thin the liberal argument has become. The left is a cause that wins on fear; not the fear of a very real threat from terrorism, but rather the imaginary kind that builds upon worse case scenarios that have neither proved to materialize or be rooted in fact. Examples of such irrational fear abound, the patriot act, the NSA wiretapping, voter suppression, war for oil, and a theocratic neo-conservative government are but a few of the many paranoid delusions trumpeted by the left.
Thus we get articles like the ones we see referred to in this article.
I had to laugh when Phillips complained about the republican rule that undercuts the U.S. tradition of commitment to the role of an informed electorate
. If ever there was an example of an attempt to build upon ignorance we have seen it in the words put forth by Kevin Phillips.
True, the Republican Party has become a vehicle for the religious faithful. It is false however to put forth the myth that these people want to place the U.S. government under some sort of religious rule. Rather, these people want to stem the attacks on the religious faithful from the very small 15% minority; a minority who uses a façade of tolerance as a platform to limit faith; one ballyhooed by the left and thus democrats by proxy. It is any wonder that those of religious faith tend to vote conservatively?
We conservatives are now defined as a “rogue coalition” purely because of beliefs based in faith. The absurdity of such statements underscores the danger of such intolerance. This is an all out assault designed to stifle those who have a religious constituency. It is a message that has been coming from the left for quite some time. Together we have an all out war against the Christian message when you combine the intolerance of the left with radical Islamic fundamentalism.
Phillips digs deeply into the common liberal stereotypes as can be seen in the following statement.
Besides providing critical support for invading Iraq — widely anathematized by preachers as a second Babylon — the Republican coalition has also seeded half a dozen controversies in the realm of science. These include Bible-based disbelief in Darwinian theories of evolution, dismissal of global warming, disagreement with geological explanations of fossil-fuel depletion, religious rejection of global population planning, derogation of women’s rights and opposition to stem cell research. This suggests that U.S. society and politics may again be heading for a defining controversy such as the Scopes trial of 1925. That embarrassment chastened fundamentalism for a generation, but the outcome of the eventual 21st century test is hardly assured.
Agreed, U.S. society and politics is heading for defining controversy. The conservative nature of many of today’s youth is the latest sign that change is coming and has been building for some time. It is not a morally religious cause so to speak, rather it is a moral crusade based on common sense and for some, faith. People of all walks of life, including those who are not religious, are waking up to the very real effects of the depraved media in print, movies and music. Parents are fed up with the sexualization of their children. Parents are fed up with Hollywood’s blurring of the lines between decency and respect versus glorified sex, drugs and the pimpification of today’s youth. It is parents on both sides of the aisle, and not just the religious ones, who are at war with the liberal notions of pop culture. However, these are conservative notions as opposed to religious zealotry.
One must truly believe that Phillips has lost his mind after reading his article. The alternative to the religious rejection of global population planning is a system such as that practiced in communist nations today. One child per family, sterilization for those who stray off the farm, forced abortion and the destruction of those that don’t meet some pre-defined genetic criteria of success are a few such alternatives. How will Phillips enforce his population planning if these options are not in the mix; especially in a day where concepts put forth by “planned parenthood” are premised on the mistake of not having a plan?
Disagreement with geological explanations of fossil-fuel depletion and Bible-based disbelief in Darwinian theories of evolution is another myth put forth by those who wish you to believe that religious doctrine excludes scientific achievement and explanation. This is the ranting paranoia of an ideology that holds a certain and very real disdain for those who have deep seated faith in religion. Sure, there is an element that adheres to strict religious underpinnings to explain cause and effect. But there is an even larger element that believes science is a wonderful creation of God that doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive.
Phillips statement about the derogation of women’s rights and opposition to stem cell research are simply lies. What the hell is he talking about? The derogation of women’s rights is something put forth by many non-Christian and non-Jewish faiths and certainly not one espoused by most Americans. They very fact that Phillips implies otherwise shows that he has no credibility when commenting on this subject.
Finally, Christians are not opposed to stem cell research. This is such a generic phrase and a moronic belief. Christians are opposed to the destruction of human life for such research. The German’s have made breakthroughs with sperm, adult stem cells have shown real promise and umbilical cells are all viable alternatives Christians would be willing to accept. The liberal fixation on embryonic stem cells is a red herring for pro abortion radicals whose true agenda has nothing to do with scientific progress. Any attempt to portray otherwise is disingenuous and false. (Count on it, someone out there will find a group that opposes all stem cell research. They will present this as proof, as if one group forms a consensus among all others.)
What conclusions are we to make of such articles as printed in the Washington Post? For me it is simple. It is a waste of paper. These beliefs play well to the fringe element of the left and will certainly build momentum among the Daily Kos crowd. But it is not a platform. Religious people are tolerant as a whole while the left as represented by the MSM, and I include Phillips in this group, denigrate, attack and play politics based on irrational fear, ignorance and bigotry.
We are seeing once again that the left has a plan. Let us hope they stick to it while we fix the very real problems in our own backyard.
