Video – Kennedy Lashes Out At Cheney in Defense of Harry Reid

Senator Kennedy took time out on the Senate floor today to defend Harry Reid from the “attacks” of Vice President Dick Cheney and lend support to the latest Democrat cut and run proposal that is working its way through the Senate.
This tirade was prompted by an earlier statement from the Vice President who accused the Democrats of pursuing a defeatist strategy in Iraq to win votes at home.
“Some Democratic leaders seem to believe that blind opposition to the new strategy in Iraq is good politics,” Cheney told reporters at the Capitol after attending the weekly Republican policy lunch. “Senator Reid himself has said that the war in Iraq will bring his party more seats in the next election.”
“It is cynical to declare that the war is lost because you believe it gives you political advantage,” Cheney said. (src sfgate)
The Democrats are a bit unhinged here if they constitute this as an attack. Suddenly the Vice President can’t defend the policies and stance of his administration without the overly sensitive Democrats becoming unglued and whining like babies when people call it as they see it.
This statement also prompted Harry Reid to call Dick Cheney the President’s “attack dog”.
Senator Kennedy’s message was in line with earlier remarks by Nancy Pelosi who stated that the Democrat cut and run plan isn’t a political issue.
“This isn’t a political issue,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. “I respect where the president is coming from on this. I wish he would respect where we are coming from, which is a reflection of where the American people are coming from.”
At least Nancy Pelosi kept her head about her. She is a smart politician and didn’t succumb to the theatrics of Kennedy and Reid. (at least from what I have seen so far). That doesn’t make her right; just cunning.
The President rejected the Democrats’ claim that surrender was a reflection of American’s interests.
“The American people did not vote for failure,” he said. “That is precisely what the Democratic leadership’s bill would guarantee.”
