Like I Didn’t See This Coming - Just Another Cause for Concern

indonesia_stamp.jpgWhile browsing through the latest headlines I came across the following little gem: “Tsunami survivors given the lash“.

The crux of the story details how money that was originally given to the province of Aceh in Indonesia for Tsunami relief is now being funneled out to radical Islamists who are using it to set up bureaucracies designed to enforce Sharia law . Typical usage of the donated funds include the setup of mock Islamic courts where the “lashing of women in public” is a common punishment.

Isn’t it great to know that financial aid from good hearted Americans and others throughout the world is being diverted to the “Sharia police”?

The Times Online UK reports:

International aid workers and Indonesian women’s organisations are now expressing dismay that the flow of foreign cash for reconstruction has allowed the government to spend scarce money on a new bureaucracy and religious police to enforce puritan laws, such as the compulsory wearing of headscarves.

Expressing dismay?!! What exactly is it going to take for these people to understand that simply throwing money at a problem is often the worst kind of aid you can give? Does anyone need more proof?

The article continues:

The transgressor can be a man accused of gambling or drinking alcohol. But if it is a woman guilty of wearing “improper” clothing or being caught in proximity to a man, there is a particular ritual to the punishment.

She is dressed in white robes and veiled. Policemen escort her up on to a stage erected before a jeering crowd, which, witnesses say, is usually almost exclusively male.

Forced to kneel, the woman waits while a masked man ascends the platform. He is carrying a cane with a curved handle designed to give the inflictor of God’s punishment a better grip. From the loudspeakers, a man’s voice sonorously recites the appropriate religious chastisement. Then he begins to count. With each number, the cane descends with a vicious lash.

For those who think Christians and Jews are a threat, I think it is time that you rethink that stance. As far as I know Christians and Jews do not cane women in public.

As I read the story I began to question whether or not I had sent money to Indonesia. I do have a big heart and if my financial position permits I will donate to the current catastrophe. I can not remember if I actually donated to this cause but I can tell you that I will not be so kind if another disaster hits in an area that is not run by a democratic government. It turns my stomach to think that our aid money is going to support radical Islamists who are likely to use that money to wage war against the west.

According to USAID, as of 2004, 403.3 million went to Indonesia for reconstruction and recovery efforts. Whether this is just a number on paper a nickel is too much in my opinion since it has probably been funneled to the terrorists who are enforcing sharia and Lord knows what else.

It pains me to say what I am going to say next, especially given that it is the holiday season, but it is time for the United States to cut these countries off. We should end foreign aid to countries that allow these horrific things to happen. It doesn’t do anybody any good to give away hard earned American dollars to countries that aid and abet these terrorists. We are actually hurting our country by facilitating the spread of radical Islam with optimistic aid packages that simply fuel the bureaucracies of hate.

My Christmas wish for this year is that America wakes up and cuts their water off. I am not going to be a willing participant to the lack of commonsense that keeps the terrorists afloat and I urge my fellow countrymen to do the same.
