Gay rights activists on the San Francisco Board of Education voted to eliminate the city’s JROTC program in a 4-2 vote last night.
SAN FRANCISCO — High schools across the city soon will no longer have Junior Reserve Officers ‘Training Corps programs after officials decided to eliminate them because of the Pentagon’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy regarding gay service members.
The Board of Education voted 4-2 late Tuesday to phase out the JROTC from schools over the next two years, despite protest from hundreds of students who rallied outside the meeting.
The resolution passed says the military’s ban on openly gay soldiers violates the school district’s equal rights policy for gays.
Hopefully the newly elected 110th Congress will not follow suit by withholding or slashing military funding.
The results of a San Francisco Chronicle poll that ran last week indicate that readers overwhelmingly supported the program with a 79% approval rate.

This sort of validates that queasy feeling I get knowing that activist Democrat San Fran Nan will be the Speaker of the House at the beginning of the next congress. Activists have a record of making decisions that are popular within their circles despite popular opinion that differs with their point of view.
We are all in for a rude awakening if this is how the newly elected Democrats are going to do business; it is not going to be good. John Kerry must be proud.

Anti-War Is Anti-Peace…
Michelle Malkin has quoted a San Francisco Chronicle article announcing The City’s decision to eliminate JROTC. Dozens of JROTC cadets at the board meeting burst into tears or covered their faces after the votes were cast. “We’re really shocked,”…
This demonstrates once again how a fringe group on the extreme left is trying to force their agenda on a community that largely disagrees.
How sad. When will the people of this country wake up?
[...] I’m assuming here, but I imagine that the San Francisco Board of Education banned JROTC because the board concluded that JROTC is influencing youngsters to join the Army. The people of San Francisco have already voted to ban military recruiters from high schools and college campuses; banning JROTC from high schools is putting the last nail into the recruiting coffin.
