From what we’ve been able to gather today, the rumor did indeed begin with Jon Elliot last night, then was picked up by a tiny blog whose author has been a frequent critic of this site. At that point, Matt Drudge ran with his ill- considered headline, which sparked a wild frenzy of conspiratorial rants from the left

Again, this comes back to Drudge: here’s a guy who has fought conservative blogs for years, refusing to link to them no matter how important their coverage might be.

In addition, he rarely acknowledges liberal blogs either, but in the few times he has, the particular stories (from Think Progress, Politico and now Talking Radio) have quickly beem proven untrue. What gives, Matt?

As most of you probably know by now Air Amerika had another national breakdown by claiming that shrill left wing talk show blubberer Randi Rhodes was beaten and mugged by right wing hate mongers who followed her home and kicked out her teeth. The delusional conspiracy theory was put out on the air by Rhodes’ sit in host John Elliott. (h/t Rush on Radio, Malkin on Net)

“Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?” he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. “Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?”

Of course the truth is usually miles away from anything these radicals say. In this case Rhodes actually fell when walking her dog and knocked out her own teeth. She was not mugged and a barrage of lawyers and Air Amerika officials have had to issue a retraction and public apology.

But that didn’t stop the nutroots in the blogosphere from going on the attack, conjuring up images of stalking wing nuts just waiting in dark corners to pounce on those whom they disagree. The usual suspects were of course involved, the Daily Kos, Think Progress and the dumb shits at the Democratic Underground.

Fox Host John Gibson takes the nutroots to task and parodies some of their posts this afternoon in a must hear radio segment that is captured here on You Tube.

NEW YORK - An Air America radio personality apologized Tuesday for saying that a colleague, the liberal talk show host Randi Rhodes, had been the victim of a violent street mugging perpetrated by “the right wing hate machine.”

Air America’s Jon Elliott announced on his late-night show Monday that Rhodes had been assaulted Sunday while walking her dog in Manhattan near her Park Avenue apartment. He also speculated that the attack was the work of someone trying to silence a liberal voice.

Air America released a statement saying that “the reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded.” Elliott followed that up with a retraction.

“I shouldn’t have speculated based on hearsay that Randi Rhodes had been mugged and that it may have been an attack from a right wing hate machine. I apologize for jumping to conclusions based on an emotional reaction,” he said in a written statement.

Once again the left proves that their biggest blowhards are also the biggest group of morons to hit the planet. These are the very same morons that Hillary Clinton and her fellow Democrats pander to on a daily basis. This kind of makes them all look pretty stupid and demonstrates why the upcoming elections are so important. The Democrats have courted these people for years despite the fact that being unhinged is practically a requirement for entrance to the club. What will happen to this nation if Democrats get more power than they have already? I shudder to think.
