Jimmy Carter Bashes Bush, Christians, Republicans and Israel in Der Spiegel

CarterJimmy Carter, king of the useful idiots, is up to his old tricks again. This time he moved his Israel bashing anti fundamentalist Christian Republican tour to an international stage in an interview with Der Spiegel.

Normally I would editorialize the crap out of something like the interview but this is one of those cases where the interview stands well on its own. I will let former President Jimmy Carter speak for himself as it speaks volumes about the left in this country. [all emphasis mine]

Former US president Jimmy Carter on Israel:

“I don’t think that Israel has any legal or moral justification for their massive bombing of the entire nation of Lebanon.”

Carter on tax breaks:

We’ve never had an administration before that so overtly and clearly and consistently passed tax reform bills that were uniquely targeted to benefit the richest people in our country at the expense or the detriment of the working families of America.

Carter on how the United States and Israel cause the Arab world to hate us:

concerns I exposed have gotten even worse now with the United States supporting and encouraging Israel in its unjustified attack on Lebanon.

Carter on sending German troops in as part of an international peace keeping force in Lebanon:

That would be certainly satisfactory to me personally, and I think most people believe that enough time has passed so that historical facts can be ignored.

As if bashing Israel wasn’t enough Carter moved on to bash the “rather strange coalition between Christian fundamentalists and the Republican Party”. Note how Jimmy Carter applies a moral equivalence between Christian fundamentalists and Islamofascists:

The fundamentalists believe they have a unique relationship with God, and that they and their ideas are God’s ideas and God’s premises on the particular issue. Therefore, by definition since they are speaking for God anyone who disagrees with them is inherently wrong. And the next step is: Those who disagree with them are inherently inferior, and in extreme cases — as is the case with some fundamentalists around the world — it makes your opponents sub-humans, so that their lives are not significant.

Personally I don’t know what this guy is talking about at this point. It is obviously a thinly veiled attempt to bait people into exhibiting the behavior he is describing. I suppose if I called him an ass he could claim victory and say he told us so but I don’t need to call the guy names. He is painting himself quite well.

But wait, there’s more. Jimmy Carter believes that the U.S. media has been “subservient” to President Bush!

For three years, I’d say, the major news media in our country were complicit in this subservience to the Bush administration out of fear that they would be accused of being disloyal. I think in the last six months or so some of the media have now begun to be critical. But it’s a long time coming.

That is the crux of the interview. Aren’t Democrats great??

I’ll leave you with the following last quote to ponder:

I think I represent the vast majority of Democrats in this country. I think there is a substantial portion of American people that completely agree with me.

Well, finally I think former President Jimmy Carter is correct. He does represent most Democrats in this country. Hopefully people will remember this fact in November.

      hi…

Chill out! Jimmy Carter was and is the best thing that could have ever happened to the Republican Party and Conservativism in general!

Consider….in 1976, most folks were liberal democrats. Then in ‘80, although they still identified themselves as such, they voted overwhelmingly for Reagan. Now, most folks (over 70%) agree with Conservatives on ALL issues.

Never would have happened without an idiot such as Carter.
