It Is All About Perspective – It Is Beginning of the End of Al Qaeda in Iraq

Perspective makes all the difference when reporting on the war against terror. From a simple missing headline, like “It Is Beginning of the End of Al Qaeda in Iraq” to the small editorial comments that are interspersed throughout reports of the news as relayed by the MSM.
Take for example the following selection from today’s New York Times.
Iraq’s national security adviser said that Iraqi forces have found documents that provide details of Al Qaeda’s plans for operations to strengthen their network in Iraq.
A document released today by the Iragi government said Iraqi forces that participated in the operation that killed Mr. Zarqawi found documents that reveal how the group planned their strategy to counter, in part, what they said was the ability of the Shiites and Iraqi National Guard to work with and shield American forces.
In a briefing today, the Iraq’s national security adviser, Mowaffak al-Rubaie, said that finding the document gave his government the edge over al Qaeda in Iraq.
“We believe that this is the beginning of the end of al Qaeda in Iraq,” said Mr. Rubaie.
But a whole story can take on a little added meaning with a quick editorial side note as demonstrated by the NY Times at the bottom of the article: There was no immediate way to independently authenticate the document.
Webloggin interpretation of the NY Times editorial drive by: It is all smoke and mirrors. You can’t really believe stories about progress in Iraq.
Perhaps that is why the New York Times left it up to the Washington Times to print this AP story.
American and Iraqi forces have carried out 452 raids since last week’s killing of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and 104 insurgents were killed during those actions, the U.S. military said Thursday.
Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, a U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, said the raids were carried out nationwide and led to the discovery of 28 significant arms caches.
He said 255 of the raids were joint operations, while 143 were carried out by Iraqi forces alone. The raids also resulted in the captures of 759 “anti-Iraqi elements.”
I hope the New York Times continues to report the news in the same biased manner. They have taught me more about how not to write than I could have ever learned in journalism school. It is all about Perspective!
