Planck’s Constant has an interesting article on the state of Russia in regard to radical Islam. In the article he raises a few interesting points about the birth rate of Muslims, the fact that Russia has 5,830 nuclear warheads, and the fact that both tidbits can mean catastrophe for the West as we know it.
Although the birth rate of ethnic Russians has dropped from 2.4 per woman to 1.1 per woman, the birth rate of Muslims in Russia has risen; averaging anywhere between 6 to 10 children per woman. If estimations are correct, “by 2015, Muslims will make up a majority of Russia’s conscript army, and by 2020 a fifth of the population. “If nothing changes, in 30 years people of Muslim descent will definitely outnumber ethnic Russians,” Goble said.”
This would be fine if radicals didn’t call for world domination and the demise of the West, but they do. Sadly I do not envision Muslims with the mentality of live and let live considering our current situation with them and their governments. Saudi Arabia tolerates no other religion, and Planck points that out:
Even in the most civilized, European, tolerant, secular country in the world, Turkey, the Muslim population is 99.8%. Even Ivory Soap at 99.44% isn’t as pure. Imagine what it would be in a non-tolerant, religious Islamic nation. Oh wait - Saudi Arabia already exists at 100% Muslim. That is the razor-thin line of tolerance the world can expect in a secular and reasonable Islamic world: 99.8% purity.
Another point that Planck made is that in the event that Pakistan turns completely radical, the country would be rather easy to contain as far as a nuclear threat goes because of its actual capabilities and its size, but Russia is a completely different story. Russia’s capabilities are for more advanced and the volume of their nuclear stores are much bigger in size. Two scary prospects.
To make matters worse we can consider another scary scenario by noting that Russia is working very closely with the likes of Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez and even Iran’s Ahmadinejad.
The West needs to be very strategic when dealing with Russia’s alliances and their growing Muslim population. Russia is forming alliances against the West and the war in Iraq war may not matter if we are not careful. Let’s not take our eye off another big ball. I hope this scenario does not come to fruition, but if we are not vigilant and attentive we could one day wake up saying, “crap, we are not in Kansas anymore”.
