ABC news radio is reporting that Iraqis are volunteering to be Saddam Hussein’s executioner at a rate of 30 people a day. The list is already 100’s of people long and growing. All volunteers are donating their execution skills free of charge.
I wonder what implications this news will have for liberal democrats and Kofi Anan who yearned for the return of the man who is responsible for the torture, rape and killing of millions of people over his 25 year reign of terror – after all, life was better under Saddam according to many. My guess is non, zilch, zip. These people are rarely held accountable for the stupid things they say.
Perhaps they can protest the death penalty as a final insult to those who died under the murderous rule of the Butcher of Baghdad.
The Agence France-Presse (AFP) is reporting that Saddam will likely be buried in a secret location. Worse and probably more troubling to his supporters is that he won’t get a monument, that is actually the headline as it appears on Yahoo news – Saddam to be buried secretly, no monument.
Well duh, you think?!! You have to hand it to the French for coming up with this one.
Saddam to be buried secretly, no monument
BAGHDAD (AFP) – Saddam Hussein and two top aides convicted with him will be executed immediately after an appeals court confirms their sentences and could be buried in secret, an Iraqi official has said.
A senior Iraqi government official said Tuesday he expected the judicial panel studying the ousted dictator’s appeal to confirm death sentences on Saddam, his half brother Barzan al-Tikriti and a former judge, Awad Ahmed al-Bandar.
“We are considering the possibility of executing the three, Saddam, Barzan and Bandar at one time on the same day,” the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity because the court is supposed to be independent.
“We may bury Saddam at a secret location,” he said.
“His body may later be handed over to his relatives, as under Muslim rituals we can exhume the body after it is buried. But one thing the government will ensure is that there is no memorial built for Saddam anywhere in Iraq.”
Saddam was sentenced to death by hanging on November 5 for ordering the execution of 148 Shiites from the village of Dujail after he escaped an assassination bid there in 1982.
His half-brother and former intelligence chief Barzan was also sentenced to death, along with Bandar, chairman of the so-called Revolutionary Court which oversaw the Shiites’ executions.
Oh well, I’m sure they’ll get over it about as quickly as Iran got over their denial of the Holocaust.
