Hypocrisy on Stage: ‘Lobbyists Gone Wild’ Take Over DNC, Provide Convention Excesses

Democrat hypocrisy? Say it ain’t so! ABC news is reporting that the much maligned lobbyists are suddenly the favored party hosts as millions upon millions are spent schmoozing elected Democrat party officials that just happen to be sapping it up like drunken sailors on leave (actually I am sure this probably gives a bad name to drunken sailors).

Despite a campaign that attacked corporate and special interest lobbyists as evil and banned their money and participation, Sen. Barack Obama has done little, if anything, about their pervasive, free-spending presence at the Democratic convention in Denver, ethics watchdog groups say.

A spokesman for the Obama campaign, Ben LaBolt, said the Senator could not “make changes to this year’s convention” because of the “very late end to the primary season.”

As a result, lobbyists are once again spending millions of dollars here on gourmet food, top-shelf liquor and private lavish parties for Democratic elected officials who seem more than happy to play the role of world-class freeloaders.

What we have here is yet another instance of Democrats talking out of both sides of their faces, essentially lying to cover up the fact that the whole ‘not take a dime from lobbyists’ meme was a convenient talking point necessary to get the moonbat vote.

Quick rewind, May 6, 2008, and the Obama campaign is touted in another one of the many sweetheart articles being pushed by propagandists in the media. The article in USA today is simply headlined, DNC will refuse funds from lobbyists, PACs. Let’s call this exhibit A in the court of Democratic and MSM doublespeak. Here’s how Mark Kelley of USA today reported the refreshing new face of the Democratic Party.

WASHINGTON — Barack Obama put his stamp on the party Thursday, announcing the Democratic National Committee would no longer accept donations from political action committees or federal lobbyists. That brings the party in line with his campaign’s policy.

The DNC also brought in Paul Tewes, who directed Obama’s come-from-behind victory in Iowa, to oversee party operations.

Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, told a town hall meeting in Bristol, Va., Thursday that the fundraising changes will help keep him and Democrats free of special-interest influence. “We are going to change how Washington works,” he said.

Change we can believe in? Hardly. Brian Ross points out the hypocrisy.

According to Denver’s top chefs and caterers, no expense is being spared.

Kevin Taylor, of the Denver restaurant Palette, who says he is the only four-star chef in Denver, says he is booked to prepare delicacies for more than 100 “high end, hush-hush events.”

The demand is over the top, you’ve never seen anything like this,” said chef Taylor, especially for his signature King Crab terrine appetizer with white champagne caviar.

At the Ritz Carlton Hotel, where rooms for Democratic VIP’s are now going for $2,000 a night, the executive chef, Andre Jimenez, says even the room welcome gifts need to be elaborate for the 35 top donors and celebrities, including “the rarest peaches in America.”

“It’s only for the best of the best that we host here,” the chef told ABC News.

We’re seeing lobbyists gone wild,” said Craig Holman of Public Citizen, a non-profit group that lobbied for the new ethics law enacted last year, aimed at curbing lobbying abuses.

There you have it. You can see the video here. Leave it up to the Democrats to lead a double life, sitting up there on stage telling the world how bad life is in America, the economy sucks, nobody can get a job, gas is too expensive, and the quality of life has diminished so much that the upcoming messiah of the party lavished praise over China’s superior infrastructure.

But don’t say the Democrats aren’t doing anything about it. At $2000 a night I am sure they are going to require a crack hotel staff to change the sheets, restock the wet bar and put designer truffles on the pillows the next morning. Not only that but I hear dishwashers are in short supply.
