Howard Dean Calls Iraqi Prime Minister Anti-Semite Despite His Own Ties To Anti-Semite Group

Howard Dean is a big name caller when the cameras are rolling. Thus it is no surprise that the DNC chair whipped out the big words when Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki was invited by President Bush to deliver a speech to Congress.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean on Wednesday called Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki an “anti-Semite” and criticized President Bush for inviting the newly-elected leader of Iraq to the United States. - Fox News

Dean AhmadSo I thought it appropriate to take a stroll down memory lane and see who Howard Dean associates himself with. Remember Howard, you are judged by the company you keep.

Ah, look at that. Here is a lovely picture of Howard Dean taking a stroll and sharing the spotlight with Ishmael Ahmad while touring the Arab American National Museum. Ishmael Ahmad is the leader of taxpayer funded ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services) in Dearborn Michigan. Ahmad was also a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

But you probably haven’t heard too much about this lovefest in public. This is because ACCESS has a pretty big dark side according to Middle East expert, Detroit attorney and radio talk show host Debbie Schlussel. She has been watching the group ever since the 2002 Second Annual Palestinian Students Divestment Conference at the University of Michigan; an event she covered for the Jerusalem Post. (Who funded the Michigan hate-fest?, Jerusalem Post, November 2002)

The event was funded in part by ACCESS and included “anti-Semitic, anti-American hate speakers, including Islamic Jihad founder Sami Al-Arian”.

“Let us damn America, let us damn Israel, let us damn them and their allies until death.” - Sami Al-Arian, 1991

The following is a list of activities that Schlussel uncovered about Dean’s buddy Ismael Ahmed and his group ACCESS:

  • American tax dollars fund his organization. American tax dollars which he then used to pay for the hateful Second Annual Palestinian Students Divestment Conference
  • After 9/11, ACCESS organized and publicized in The Detroit News a campaign against universities cooperating with federal agents trying to find foreign students linked to terrorism.
  • Ahmed opposed the Clinton Counter-terrorism Act of 1996 because it prohibited donations to terrorist groups, including Hizbullah and Hamas.
  • ACCESS, North America’s largest Arab welfare agency, funded commercial driving lessons and attempts to get hazardous-materials hauling certificates for Ahmed Hannan and Karim Koubriti, members of Detroit’s recently indicted al-Qaida cell. When confronted by the press, ACCESS chief and Deans buddy Ismael Ahmed dismissed their al-Qaida membership as a mere “political credential.” Webloggin Note: The conviction in this case was subsequently overturned because of prosecutorial misconduct. But I hardly think that al-Qaida membership is a political credential if the quote is accurate, which I believe it to be.
  • Ismael Ahmed’s Americorps program sends volunteers to work for the Arab-American Institute, a Saudi-funded lobbying group headed by Democratic advisor James Zogby – all at taxpayer expense.

One has to wonder why Howard Dean would be courting Ismael Ahmed given his self proclaimed outrage toward anti-Semites. I suppose you could say that it happened way back in 2002 and that Dean was too busy with his own affairs to have noticed. You might also say that Dean is confused about which Semites he supports.

Perhaps, but no. Dean is playing the friend of Israel card while tucking away the foe of Israel card up his sleeve for another day. All of this to score much needed political points despite having his own anti-Semite skeletons in the closet.

I don’t believe that the charges made against ACCESS are any National Secret; otherwise we would have read about them in the New York Times. Thus Howard Dean is likely aware of them as well.
The story with ACCESS doesn’t end there; the legacy of anti-Israel actions continues to be associated with the group.

In April 2006 ACCESS sponsored the University of Michigan Arab World Music Summit that featured the “Music of the Levant: Syria, Lebanon, Palestine”. Not that this is a crime mind you except for the fact that the band from Palestine, Trio Joubran, actually comes from Nazareth; i.e. Irsael. (University of Michigan’s “Music Festival” of HATE)

Selective memory may be a political virtue but it never is an excuse in today’s information age. The next time Howard Dean calls the kettle black he may as well own up to being the pot.

Side note:This area of Michigan is a hot bed for these kinds of activities. Last year the same University of Michigan Musical Society sent out brochures with a map of the Middle East that had Israel eliminated. Only an idiot would turn a blind eye and not profile this area for terrorist activities. Sorry, this is the war we are in. The Muslim communities are deafeningly silent when it comes to speaking out against terrorism yet many of them are openly vocal when it comes to opposing our ally Israel as well as the United States.

Side Note II: Unfortunately the Bush administration has also courted ACCESS and given them multi-million dollar donations. We may as well be fair here. This is shameful.

One Response to “Howard Dean Calls Iraqi Prime Minister Anti-Semite Despite His Own Ties To Anti-Semite Group”

  1. [...] Michigan did not become a major hub for terrorists by mistake. They were helped by politicians in Congress and even the White House who donated millions of our tax dollars to groups such as the Michigan based Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services. This group. like CAIR, is well known for its anti-Semitic and its anti-American hate speech as we reported here and most particularly in Dearbornistan….The Enemy From Within. =================== I would like to send a message to all Republicans who have decided that political correctness is a path to voter allegiance. It is time to rethink your stance on border security, political correctness and the way you are going to secure the future of this country. [...]
