How to Tell When Democrat Leaders Lie: They Open Their Mouths

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer wrote an impassioned plea in the Wall Street Journal this morning asking American taxpayers to toe the line and swallow the crap sandwich that Congress got us into over the debacle surrounding the liberal need to give people loans they don’t qualify for out of “fairness”.
Now American taxpayers are being asked to pay for that fairness by mortgaging our future generations solvency to bail out Hoyer’s friends on Wall Street. Strange how Democrats lose the “it’s for the kids” mantra at times when they are acting in ways that will most decidedly hurt the next generation of taxpayers, today’s kids, that will have to make up for this generation of crooks and liars that sit in cushy positions as our elected representatives.
Not all in Congress are crooks and liars, but as a whole they have demonstrated that the well being of the American people, and the world as a whole, take a back seat to ideological madness that thrives in Washington.
So here we have another leader of the House, not looking forward, but casting blame on Republicans, right on cue for tonight’s vote:
It’s been clear all along that a bill to stave off financial catastrophe would take the support of both parties, on both sides of the Capitol. House Democrats lived up to our end of the bargain: 60% of us voted for a financial rescue.
Many of us had significant reservations. But most Democrats were persuaded by economists who told us the dangers of inaction. And we were moved by stories of a credit crunch already starting to endanger families and small businesses. One senator spoke last weekend about a car dealer in small-town Utah who called his office to say, “I’m not going to be able to pay my employees next week. I can’t get the kind of credit line from the bank that I’ve had through my entire career unless you do something.”
There was a great scene in Iron Man where Robert Downey Jr. took on a bunch of terrorists attacking a village. One of the leaders of the pack had run like a dog and hid behind a wall. Iron Man put his fist through the wall, pulled the guy out by the collar of his jacket and threw him into a crowd of people that he had been terrorizing. I would love to see the American people do the same to Hoyer on November 4th but unfortunately he is not up for re-election yet. Thus we will have to suffer the idiocy that he spews from his mouth for another couple of years. But not everybody is protected from the wrath of the electorate on November 4th.
I had hoped that Congress would get together and do something positive, look for common sense legislation and stop playing games with taxpayer money. Isn’t it odd that the situation is so dire that the Senate decided the much needed solution could only work if it included new pork that has nothing to do with bailing out failing banks? They do not appear up to that task.
From The Wall Street Journal Opinion Pages:
a political class greedy to push home-ownership rates to historic highs — from 64% in 1994 to 69% in 2004. This was mostly the result of loans to low-income, higher-risk borrowers. Both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, abetted by Congress, trumpeted that rise as it occurred. The consequence? On top of putting the entire financial system at risk, the hidden cost has been hundreds of billions of dollars funneled into the housing market instead of more productive assets.
Beware of trying to do good with other people’s money. Unfortunately, that strategy remains at the heart of the political process, and of proposed solutions to this crisis.
But all is not lost. Republican House members can salvage their reputation and vote this bill down like the dog that it is. Then perhaps Congress will get serious and do something right by the people for once. If not vote them out of office while you still can.
