How Long Until This is Blamed on Global Warming?
by Terry Trippany, Webloggin Editor

I can’t flush my toilet without some greenie blaming the “phenomenon” of the swooshing sound on global warming in a day and age of ignorantly manufactured climate change hysteria by politicians and lemmings alike. So it is only a matter of time before someone blames the disappearance of a 5 acre lake in Chile on man induced climate change.

This lake that formed 30 years ago has now disappeared.

Scientists in Chile are investigating the sudden disappearance of a glacial lake in the south of the country.

When park rangers patrolled the area in the Magallanes region in March, the two-hectare (five-acre) lake was its normal size, officials say.

But last month they found a huge dry crater and several stranded chunks of ice that used to float on the water.

One theory is that an earthquake opened up a fissure in the ground, allowing the lake’s water to drain through.

“In March we patrolled the area and everything was normal,” Juan Jose Romero from Chile’s National Forestry Corporation, Conaf, said.

“We went again in May and to our surprise we found that the lake had completely disappeared. All that was left were chunks of ice and an enormous fissure.” – BBC, Lake Disappears Suddenly in Chile

Actually the BBC has already made a loose reference to climate change by association even though not one single scientist has done so in the story. The links of related items that the BBC put on this article are mainly links to topics about, drum roll please, yup, you got it, climate change. They might as well have linked up a list of articles about space aliens. No wonder I think that enormous fissures are less of a rare occurrence than the one reported in this article; I find them in the heads of people representing the MSM every day.

Let’s get ahead of this one. Scientists report that the landscape at the Magallanes region is constantly changing.

A glacier specialist, Andres Rivera, told Chilean newspaper La Tercera that the lake’s disappearance seemed to be part of the continual reforming of the landscape.

The Magallanes area “has seen interesting changes in the last few decades,” he said, noting that the lake itself had not been there 30 years ago.

I’m sure it won’t be long until the thought police get to that scientist and have him recant this blasphemous outrage. How dare he not mention global warming when talking about environmental phenomena!!? A little enticement will do, perhaps pulling his funding or spuriously linking him to Salman Rushdie should do the trick. Now back to their regularly programmed hysteria.

Update: You thought I was kidding about global warming hysteria. Thankfully the AP took up the cause and it was distributed to us via MSNBC.

AP finds scientist to plug global warming theory via pictures!

You’ve seen the headline now lets look at the scientific evidence being presented here.

But, based on pictures from the site, experts already were discussing hypotheses related to global warming and seismic activity.

Gino Casassa, a glaciologist at the Center for Scientific Studies, said the cause may have been a phenomenon known as glacial lake outburst floods.

As glaciers retreat, glacial lakes form behind natural dams of ice or moraine. These relatively weak dams can be breached suddenly, causing the lake to drain. Possible causes for the dam to be breached include a sudden input of water into the lake, an earthquake or avalanches or ice or rock.

Casassa said the lake was fed by two glaciers, the Bernardo and the Tempano, “and both are receding.”

The water level of the lake could have risen with the increasing flow from the melting glaciers.

“At the same time, the increased amount of water opens a tunnel under the ice, emptying the lake,” Casassa said.

[snip]
Casassa said glaciers can recede for other reasons than global warming. It can be the result of the natural dynamic of glaciers, which recede or grow. “But I am convinced that in this case, it is the result of global warming,” he said.

The empty lake is about 5,000 feet above sea level.

These theories are all scientifically plausible but science fortunately doesn’t start with a template. In this case people are looking to blame global warming, and who knows, it could actually have disappeared as a result of climate change, but it also could have resulted from many other activities.

And what about the possibility of this being caused by an earthquake? Well if you read to the end of the MSNBC AP feed you will see that an earthquake hit the area less than 2 months ago.

Romero, the head of the forest service, said another theory is that the water disappeared through huge cracks at the bottom of the crater. He said the cracks may have been caused by the strong quake that rocked the region on April 21.

Recall from the original story that the lake was last seen in March. In other words an earthquake occurred in the area between the last time anyone visited the lake and now. This was reported in the original BBC article but it doesn’t stop people in the media from jumping to the worst of conclusions. They skip right over the plausible and jump to the hysterical. Forget the fact that the lake didn’t even exist until 30 years ago or that this has happened many times before throughout the world. (See the story of Lake Jackson in Florida. It has disappeared many times in the 20th Century as documented in 1907, 1933, 1957, 1982 and now in 1999.)

Climate change is a fact of life. The planet goes through many natural cycles, global warming one of them. It may even turn out to be a good thing depending how you look at it. Increased CO2 causes plant growth. A 1998 research study demonstrated that the detrimental effects of greenhouse gas emissions are erroneous and misleading.

A review of the research literature concerning the environmental consequences of increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide leads to the conclusion that increases during the 20th Century have produced no deleterious effects upon global weather, climate, or temperature. Increased carbon dioxide has, however, markedly increased plant growth rates. Predictions of harmful climatic effects due to future increases in minor greenhouse gases like CO2 are in error and do not conform to current experimental knowledge.

The point? There has been much evidence that global warming hysteria is one fabricated by politicians in an effort to court environmental activists, some of whom are ignorant, most of whom are good hearted and many of whom stand to get rich off of research funds and various perks that are given to those who play nice with the political establishment. In the face of serious doubt by many in the scientific community it is time to question those who wish to stifle debate and replace science with hysteria driven consensus.

How Long Until This is Blamed on Global Warming?

The answer is very simple, its happend about 100 times during a summer in Greenland every year, a glacial lake disappers.

The unstable glacial lake was in the front of a glacier, and there is permafrost in the underground, the bottom of the lake simply melted the permafrost, and I have from other sources, that the area had a lot of caves in the underground, so now you have a empty lake and a cave full of cold freshwater. The sediment in the lakebotton are ground pulp from the rocks rubbet of by the glaciers movement to the edge.

When the ground pulp is drying up it looks like cement and can be transported by the wind into the ice again in a duststorm and black ice melting faster than white ice.
