GOP Debate - A Little More Lively

I watched the GOP debate from Durham N.H. last night and thought it contrasted to the last set of Democrat debates in that the crowd at the seemed stocked full of Ron Paul supporters; in other words a whole ton of libs. My personal experience at the Soldier Filed AFL-CIO debate was that there wasn’t one person brave enough to applaud any kind of comment that veered from the Democrat (thus union) narrative.
This is both smart on the Dems part and a bit informative when it comes to understanding the lack of diversity in both thought and message on the part of liberal Democrats. They are a monolith of victim based mentality with some sort of weird dementia pushing them to believe that the government can save everything and everyone. Have these people not dealt with government inefficiency? Arrgh.
In some sense that is good news for Republicans because they are truly entering into the realm of debate. Something we have been looking to find for quite some time.
Last night’s debate seemed a bit more spirited than previous ones. John McCain benefited from a new approach and a new look. Gone are those stupid oversized shoulder pads and wild hand motions and pointing, in seems a softer more relaxed look and demeanor. He appeared more confident on military and foreign policy issues and touted his early criticism of Rumsfeld’s approach to the war; something that bolsters General Petraeus and McCain.
But back to Ron Paul. This guy doesn’t even seem to rate in the polls yet the audience was clearly inundated by supporters of every anti-war, anti-government foreign policy statement he made. They are not indicative of the Republican base so one can only suspect that Democrats are making a concerted effort to get their people into the crowd to try and muck things up a bit. Either that or the Republicans are not paying enough attention to the demographics of the settings such that they have an audience that is more in line with the base’s center of gravity. Perhaps the Republicans running the show don’t know where that center is anymore. New Hampshire is one of those states that seems evenly divided so I can only suspect that this is what we get from location. Given that it is a key stop I think the Republicans need to be a little better at getting in front of some crowds that lean more to the right, at least in these early debates (that time is passing quickly).
