Gabriele Pauli, a Bavarian politician, has shocked some with her new idea; marriages should dissolve after seven years, if the couples decide to stay together they “extend” their marriage.

Reuters reports:

Gabriele Pauli, who poses on her web site in motorcycle leathers, is standing for the leadership of Bavaria’s Christian Social Union (CSU) — sister party of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) — in a vote next week.

She told reporters at the launch of her campaign manifesto on Wednesday she wanted marriage to expire after seven years and accused the CSU, which promotes traditional family values, of nurturing ideals of marriage which are wide of the mark.

“The basic approach is wrong … many marriages last just because people believe they are safe,” she told reporters. “My suggestion is that marriages expire after seven years.”

After that time, couples should either agree to extend their marriage or it should be automatically dissolved, she said.

Fifty-year-old Pauli, twice divorced, is a maverick intent on shaking up her male-dominated and mainly Catholic party which has dominated Bavarian politics since World War Two.

Yes, let’s deteriorate marriage even more than the feminists of the 60’s did. Can we get back to family? Another point, aren’t the Anglo Europeans in a population crisis right now? Maybe their focus should be on marriage, staying married, and procreation.

New York City seeks to stop immigration raids after authorities busted in on some homes looking for illegals. A lawsuit was filed. The AP reports:

Immigration authorities violated Hispanic families’ civil rights by raiding their homes without court warrants, sometimes bursting in before dawn to look for people who didn’t live there, according to a federal lawsuit.

The suit was filed Thursday on behalf of 15 people — including seven U.S. citizens — who say their suburban homes were raided earlier this year.

Arguing that the raids violate constitutional protections against unreasonable searches, the suit seeks unspecified damages and a halt on the home raids until Immigration and Customs Enforcement develops legal guidelines for them.[emphasis mine]

Who are the other eight individuals who have filed suit? Are they illegal and if so why haven’t they been arrested and deported?

Afghanistan:

75 alleged Taliban terrorists and unfortunately 6 or so civilians, were killed in what is being described as “heavy fighting”. The AP reports:

Heavy battles punctuated by airstrikes killed 75 suspected Taliban and at least six civilians in Afghanistan’s south, while a U.S. official on Friday accused Iran of supplying roadside bomb components to militants to get American soldiers “out of the region.”

To all of our servicemen; WHOA!

Israel:

President Mahmoud Abbas, Israel’s deputy prime minister, said that Israel should turn over Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem to the Palestinians.

Israel should turn over Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem to the Palestinians as part of a peace deal with the moderate government of President Mahmoud Abbas, Israel’s deputy prime minister said Friday. The comment was one of the frankest remarks to date about what Israel might be willing to relinquish in talks.

The conciliatory statement by Haim Ramon came just hours after a coalition of Israeli human rights groups condemned the government’s decision this week to cut back fuel and electricity supplies to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. Israel has been seeking to isolate Gaza after Hamas militants violently seized control of the coastal strip in June, while at the same time strengthening Abbas’ moderate government in the West Bank.

I should think they should. Hamas would see them wiped off the face of the map. Why wouldn’t they do this?

Ramon, a close ally of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, said keeping all of Jerusalem would endanger the city’s future as Israel’s capital and suggested that many Arab sections be turned over to Palestinian sovereignty in return for international recognition of the Jewish neighborhoods Israel has built in east Jerusalem since 1967.

Excuse me, but isn’t the reason Israel gained control of the area because the Palestinians would not recognize the Jews the right to live there? How would giving them neighborhoods back change their minds? The answer is simple, it wouldn’t. Just about every Middle Eastern leader is calling for Israel’s demise; I highly doubt giving them “Arab neighborhoods” would change their stance.
