Everybody’s Talking Immigration

Three topics are front and center this morning, the CIA rendition trial in Milan Italy and the concurrent AP article meant to coincide with the Italian trial that claims to reveal another secret CIA rendition program (coincidence? yeah right), Paris Hilton will be back in front of a judge today and the burning embers of the Senate’s failed attempt to ram an unwanted immigration bill down the throats of the American people.

Of all of them however most people are still writing about the Senate immigration developments.

Big Dog fears that the bill will sneak in later. A good bet if we are to take Harry Reid at his word (usually a big if).

Ron Smith of WBAL radio in Baltimore has a saying that goes something like this; The Republicans are the evil party and the Democrats are the stupid party so when they team up on something the result is both stupid and evil. Case in point, the recent immigration bill that is going down in flames as we speak (until the beady eyed Harry Reid sneaks it in for a vote someplace else) was put together by a bipartisan group and supported by many people from both sides of the aisle. The usual suspects were involved including Kennedy, Specter, Reid, Pelosi, McCain, McConnell, Martinez, Chavez (Linda not Hugo though he probably likes it as well) and all of this was supported by George W Bush who has become so eaten up by his lame duck status and desire to have some kind of legacy that he would have sex with a porcupine if he thought it would make the Democrats happy and give him better standing in the world. We can discuss some other time what happened to that famous swagger and if a real man from Texas would ever lose it.

Debbie Hamilton at Right truth discusses those who worked hard to defeat the bill and comments on the politicians behind the failed effort with emphasis on President Bush and John McCain.

We have a broken immigration system because American law enforcement and ICE have failed to enforce laws on the books. Period. The latest Senate attempt to force amnesty down our throats is taking it’s last breath, doctors are ready to pronounce the time of death and cremate the remains. Credit goes to hard working groups like Numbers USA, Grassfire.org, Coalition Against Illegal Immigration, Guard the Borders, and more.

The Roll Call is here, go take a look.

President George W. Bush has lost his marbles on immigration, the war on terror, the war in Iraq, North Korea, Iran, … The Republicans lost seats and the majority in 2006 because of President Bush and his complete failure to listen to the people who put him in office.

Arizona Senator John McCain’s backing of the two latest immigration bills is part of the reason he is falling in the polls. Other reasons are the strange way he has been acting lately. I think he’s lost it. Now it has cost him a county chairman in South Carolina.

Faultline USA discusses the amnesty provisions that were averted and the ramifications of the defeat for the next wave of Presidential hopefuls.

Thursday night the Senate voted 45 to 50 against invoking cloture on S. 1348. According to Numbers USA, Senator Reid has pulled the bill from the floor for now.

Let President Bush (who completely abandoned his Republican base on immigration) and the open borders hate America left call it what they will, the bill WAS an Amnesty Bill.

Americans, both conservatives and moderates alike, have spoken and the message should be loud and clear to any presidential hopeful. Americans are fed up with the “nuanced” double-speak of the left, political hacks, the endless games and hidden agendas. We want a plain-spoken traditional leader who is going to fulfill the will of the people – not the will law-breakers, of corporate globalists, or of subversive special interests (AKA: the crazy left).

Bookworm reminds us of the facts that have disappeared in the debate.

In the swirl of arguments surrounding the immigration plan — a plan that now looks on the verge of collapse — a lot of important truths are disappearing. Thomas Lifson, however, resurrects these truths, and in clear language explains why they matter, and why they shouldn’t be ignored as we grapple with a three tiered problem: the illegal immigrants who are already here, the immigrants who have yet to come here, and the terrorists who want to hide in the previous two groups.

It’s Friday and Americans end the week in a victory; not because we are racists but because we are rightfully concerned when our elected leaders ignore the will of the people who put them into office. It is the American way and we have every right to be concerned about the ramifications of this bill to the societal and economic framework of the nation we all worked so hard to maintain. That elitist politicians thought anything otherwise is an indication as to why their approval ratings are in the gutter.

This is a watershed power to the people moment. Enjoy it while it lasts and have a great weekend!

Do you remember when Harry Reid said they’d killed the patriot act? All they had done was delay it. They didn’t kill it.

This sad travesty of a bill isn’t dead yet. All that has happened in the Senate is a delay. The Democrats couldn’t obtain cloture to stop debate and push the “bipartisan” bill forward. It’s not dead, at least not yet.

It’s not dead until a vote for passage defeats it.

Great point. This thing will be like a bad movie with endless sequels. Hopefully we can stave them off until we get a new Congress that listens to American voters. - Trip
