Democrats Fail To Pass Latest Plan To Surrender To Terrorists

Republicans handed defeat to Senate Democrats who want to hand defeat to the American efforts to fight terrorism at home and abroad.
WASHINGTON — Republicans handed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid a defeat on the Iraq issue Thursday, voting down a proposal that would withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq by March 31, 2008.
Democrats aggressively challenged President Bush’s Iraq policy at both ends of the Capitol building, gaining House committee approval for a troop withdrawal deadline of Sept. 1, 2008, but suffering defeat in the Senate.
The vote was 50-48 against the measure, 12 short of the 60 needed for passage.’
Make no mistake about it, had the Democrats succeeded in throwing up the white flag the defeat would reverberate across the world. Nothing good would come of that and terrorists everywhere would celebrate their Democrat lead victory.
I’ve lost count on the number of failed proposals that have been put forward so far but we can rest assured that they will keep trying. Isn’t it ironic that Democrats worked feverishly to paint Iraq in terms of Vietnam yet the only real parallel is in their attempts to prevent to United States from having any chance of success. It took over 31 different efforts to pass the Cooper-Church amendment that effectively limited troop deployment in the Vietnam war but that amendment only passed well after U.S. troops had left Cambodia.
Another comparison to Vietnam can be seen in the following statement by New York Rep. Rep. Jose Serrano. It is perhaps one of the most idiotic statements made to date due to its lack of historical context that all but ignores the millions of deaths that resulted from the anti-war left’s proudest moment that forced our departure in Vietnam over three decades ago.
Anti-war Democrats prevailed on a near-party line vote of 36-28 in the House Appropriations Committee, brushing aside a week-old veto threat from the administration and overcoming unyielding opposition from Republicans.
“I want this war to end. I don’t want to go to any more funerals,” said New York Rep. Rep. Jose Serrano, one of several liberal Democrats who have pledged their support for the legislation despite preferring a faster end to the war.
I wonder if Mr. Serrano or any other defeatist in Congress will count the number of funerals that American’s, Iraqi’s and their Western allies are going to have to attend once they hand victory to our enemies? What a disgrace.
At least there was some semblance of intelligence in Congress.
“Nobody wants our troops out of Iraq more than I do, countered Rep. C.W. Bill Young of Florida, who sought unsuccessfully to scuttle the timeline for a troop withdrawal. “But we can’t afford to turn over Iraq to Al Qaeda.”
In the Senate, after weeks of skirmishing, Republicans easily turned back Democratic legislation requiring a troop withdrawal to begin within 120 days. The measure set no fixed deadline for completion of the redeployment, but set a goal of March 31, 2008. The vote was 50-48 against the measure, 12 short of the 60 needed for passage.
I hope the nation wakes up from this slumber. For years the Democrats told us they had a plan; not one for defeat but one for change. Many of us in the blogosphere knew that was code for cut and run despite the Democrats lying denials.
They call themselves patriots but I can’t think of anything more anti-American than leaving another country to be overrun by terrorists so that Democrats can use the resulting loss as an election issue in 2008. Some people have no shame.
