Democrat Plan For Iraq - Surrender

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid came out in advance of Dick Durbin’s Democrat response with a joint statement that immediately rejected the President’s plea to take the gloves off in Iraq.
The President proposed ramping up efforts to stabilize the region with additional troops and defined a strategy that will hopefully be along the lines of something we should have been doing all along - removing the sectarian and foreign influences that have been undermining our efforts in the region while concurrently setting a time table for the Iraqi government to get on board. The President also issued a warning to the Iraqi government, go with the plan or you’re on your own.
Even with the addition of 20,00 troops though I don’t know if that is enough. We need more then extra personnel. We need to give the troops the tools necessary to do the job. You can’t just send them in there with liberal lawyers breathing down their backs ready to sue over the way they respond in a fire fight. So the speech for all its glitter came up a little short. However I consider this a plea and not a formal plan. It points in the right direction. The only questions that remains are
- is this enough?
- Will the Democrats finally support our troops with more than lip service?
Based on the Democrat response though I think we know the answer to the second question. They have a different idea, a single unified white flag - call it a day, we lost, it’s time to cut our losses and get out (sound familiar?). They may use pretty metaphors such as redeployment but what they really mean is pack it up.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid released the following statement:
“This is not a good idea. The proposal endangers our national security by placing additional burdens on our already over extended military thereby making it more difficult to respond to other crisis.”
They are reiterating their call to start withdrawing our forces from Iraq. This is apparently the new way forward for Democrats, the cut in run that wasn’t, that is. This was not unexpected in the least.
The Democrats, in their infinite wisdom have essentially sided with the insurgents and raised the white flag. They are openly admitting that they believe that the U.S. military can’t win a war in an area the size of California.
But I have a question, who could win a war with spineless politicians like Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid backing them up?
I would also like to know what other dire crisis the U.S. military is responding to outside of the Middle East? You know, the crisis that has Nancy Pelosi preempting the Democrat response with the exact same message that Dick Durbin gave minutes later.
The Democrats are trying to distance themselves from the President’s plan because they have nothing to offer in return. They don’t want to endorse the plan so they will simply criticize while grudgingly approving the plan. This is their layer of protection in case the plan goes wrong. Even if it goes right you can expect the Vietnam wannabe’s to continue criticizing the strategy in an effort to cause more calamity in the run to 2008.
If however the Democrats succeed in stalling the President’s plan what can we expect? The killing fields of Vietnam obviously had no impact on the short sighted Congressman. You can expect more violence, not less. So then what?
Colin Powell said to President Bush, “you break it, you buy it”. Is this how American’s follow through on their commitment, by cutting and running? If you are a Democrat you can proudly hold your head up with your tail between your legs and say yes.

Well, I have to say, the democrats are outdoing themselves. I didn’t think it was possible, but they are being even more predictably contrary than even I could predict. I’m stunned and bitterly disappointed that they were put back into power, Republican incompetence notwithstanding.
