‘Declare Yourself’ Targets Youth Voter

The push is on to engage and energize the youth vote. While this is nothing new as evidenced by the MTV rock the vote campaign the effort this year is much more sophisticated and perhaps more successful. Various initiatives by more youth oriented websites such as MySpace, Facebook, the Daily Kos and even MoveOn.org have been very successful at attracting young voters.
The most recent entry into this field is a non-partisan initiative called Declare Yourself and the youth voter is the primary target which could spell bad news for Republicans.
The site sponsors are very much aware of the stakes and I applaud them for this effort but Republicans and conservatives had better jump on board this bandwagon because the youth voter is easily impressed by the forces of left wing politics, its message of change (even though change is being used without substance unless you consider 60’s anti-war, anti-establishment style messages new), and the accessibility to youth that is being inundated with left wing money, resources and messaging.
TRIPLE TURNOUT IN IOWA
The youth turnout in Iowa more than tripled compared to the 2004 caucus from 4% to 13%! Young voters came out to support their candidates and their voices were clearly heard as Senator Obama took the lead for the Democrats and Huckabee for the Republicans.
Although the site is touted as being non-partisan Republicans have a definite disadvantage in the web space and the sponsors of Declare Yourself are an indication of such trends. Out of the 20 sponsors of the site I only identified one, perhaps two that have a conservative audience.
I urge every blogger to link this or similar sites up on their websites. This year is more important than ever because the change that is coming may be exactly the kind of change that American can ill afford to have. This may well be the most important election of our lifetime. Help make sure that a true conservative gets elected and change occurs withing the guiding parameters of first principles.
The following companies are sponsors of Declare Yourself:
