Chinese Steamed Bun Story Bogus - Or So They Say

On July 12th I reported on a story from Beijing that accused some vendors of selling steamed buns made from cutup cardboard, softened with industrial chemicals, and flavored with fatty pork.
I received a Reuters report from The Intolerant Fox stating that the previous story was bogus and that Beijing authorities are reporting that the story was a fabrication made up by a state employed reporter who exaggerated the story for higher ratings.
According to authorities, the employee known as “Zi”, had provided vendors with the chemically soaked cardboard for his story.
A few things just do not seem to resonate with me. Why would a reporter give vendors the cardboard and why would the vendors comply? Especially since China executes people for the smallest of offenses.
Reuters reported that:
The government has accused foreign media of hyping the story and of inaccurate reporting, saying problems were limited to a few, rogue companies and were not systemic.
Exactly what is not systemic; the shrimp and fish in sewer water, or the faulty tires, or the recalled toys that were painted with lead based paints? These were all hyped stories?
Frankly, I just do not believe the Chinese government on hardly anything. This is a government that does not care about its own people so there is no way I think it cares about my people. Furthermore, I am not buying the story that “Zi” gave the cardboard to vendors to fabricate the story. What I do believe is that “Zi” is probably having his toenails ripped out as I write about this and that he will not be writing any more negative stories about China’s crappy industry.
