Chinese Anyone?

Once again we have another recall on toys made in China. I have written previous stories on the pitfalls associated with doing business with China and this is just another example.
Some of our wonderful Chinese imports are:
- Wheat gluten which was contaminated with the chemical melamine, that was also used in our pet food, making some pets fatally ill. Hopefully it was not used in human food, but who really knows? We do know that some of the farm animals that ate the contaminated food had been processed for human consumption
- Sewage Seafood
- Thomas the “lead based paint” toy trains
- Lead based metal jewelry sold at Limited Too and Justice stores nationwide
- Lead Based Children’s gardening gloves
- Lead based multi-colored and solid colored sidewalk chalk sold by Toys R Us stores
- Lead based and microbiological contaminated Kohl eyeshadow
- Colgate Diethylene glycol toothpaste-(the ingredient used in antifreeze)
This is just the short list. We can now add the newest toy recall by Fisher-Price. The company is recalling over a million toys. The toys on the list are Big Bird, Elmo, Dora the Explorer and Diego. These are just to name a few; I am sure we will see more because every other week we have an import problem with China.
One might ask when these problems started. It started when the United States agreed to bring China into the World Trade Organization, a policy that I have vehemently opposed from the beginning. I do not trust the Chinese government and I do not understand why we continue to kow-tow to countries that are human rights violators.
When are the American people going to boycott China? Americans boycotted France when the French government backpedaled on Iraq. The French are certainly guilty of being pacifist weenies but they do not sell us tainted wine.
I am a bit confused on the lack of enthusiasm for boycotting China. China is posing a health risk to the American public, mostly our children, yet we continue to by their tainted goods.
For Pete sakes, stand up and boycott China already. By issuing a full boycott we will not have to worry about tainted goods on a large scale and it might bring some industry back to America. I say pay the extra buck, do not buy from China.
