For years we have been arguing that there is no reason to go down the path of embryonic stem cell solutions when other stem cell research is showing more promise. Today we learn of another advance related to non-embryonic stem cell based transplants.
PARIS — Physicians at four European universities have successfully transplanted a human windpipe, [...]

A Washington Times article this morning indicates support for a new embryonic stem cell bill being pushed by Senator Johnny Isakson (R- Deception). I know this will be praised as a compromise by moderates (read wishy-washy) in the Republican Party but it can only be accurately presented as a major flip-flop by President Bush.
The [...]

Columbia University released a presser nearly 10 weeks ago about a "Novel Clinical Trial" involving those damn adult stem cells; you know, the kind we’re supposed to pretend are useless as compared to their embryonic predecessors.
The novelty of course comes from the fact that medical researchers are yet again showing promise using non-embryonic forms [...]

ou would think that this research would be hailed by Democrats and other proponents of stem cell research, but you would be wrong. For all the advances that have been made in non-embryonic forms of stem cell research the Democrats in Congress still glom onto the one form of stem cell research that is the least likely to show promise for a variety of reasons.

I reported earlier today that the ban on reporting news about non-embryonic stem cell research has apparently been lifted now that the elections are over. CNN actually picked up on the two stories that I reported about and amazingly they continue their activist ways by claiming that “experts say that embryonic stem cells have the [...]

I can see, I CAN SEE!! November 8th, 2006 brings us news of “stunning” breakthroughs involving non-embryonic stem cell research. And to think that it only took the completion of a United States election for the press to cover these stories.
The first study involves the transplantation of retinal cells into the eyes of animals [...]

The hypocrisy of Embryonic Stem Cell Politics is designed to fool people into thinking that there is only one hope in the quest to cure disease and repair paralysis. It’s a lie that has been conjured up by politicians whose sole quest is to gain power rather than help the human cause. People should get more involved and educate themselves if there are going to take such a stance.

Isn’t it the liberals who are outraged by American Indian college mascots like Chief Illiniwek? Which is more exploitative: a college student who dresses up in a costume and dances around at half time for the amusement of the fans or the use of an actual living, suffering human being for political expediency?

This is one smart family (and apparently, this year at least, America is one smart country):
American Roger D. Kornberg, whose father won a Nobel Prize a half-century ago, was awarded the prize in chemistry Wednesday for his studies of how cells take information from genes to produce proteins.
The work is important for medicine, because disturbances [...]

We are lead to believe that there is no longer any reason to oppose this research on a moral ethical basis. But that suggestion intentionally ignores the very real moral and ethical questions surrounding preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) even in the absence of stem cell research.
