Update: Reid voted against his own amendment for “procedural reasons”.

Hagel, Snowe, Smith and Collins voted with the democrats.

“It’s neither precipitous, nor is it a withdrawal,” said Senator Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, who, along with Mr. Smith and Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, was one of the three Republican backers of the Democratic plan before today’s vote. “It’s a redeployment, a reduction in forces, a change in mission.”

It’s sad that Republicans use the R word as if calling it “redeployment” is not a vote for withdrawal. Perhaps Snowe didn’t bother to read the Levin-Reid amendment but it is an amendment mandating withdrawal!!

The Senate voted to stop the Levin-Reid amendment in its tracks as a cloture motion failed by a margin of Yea 52 - Nay 47. This is the latest chapter in the Democrat lead defeatathon that started at 3:00 yesterday afternoon and had all the theatrics of greek theater.

Senator Harry Reid took to the Senate floor before the vote to peddle more garbage about the need to surrender to terrorists in Iraq. He is suggesting that diplomacy is the best way to deal with the terrorists. That strategy worked out pretty well over the last 30 years.

Of course history is something that Democrats only see through the rose colored glasses of Vietnam. Another lesson lost as Democrats seek to risk a repeat of the killing fields, this time by terrorists that play the Democrats handily like a violin. Disgraceful would be kind.

Perhaps one of the most disingenuous moments was when Reid asked the Senate chaplin to pray before the vote. Isn’t it strange that Democrats seem to find a need to mix religion and politics at all the opportune moments? Of course they usually find religion whenever they need a prop for a sound bite. This was one of those times.

Considering that the Senate chaplin asked for God’s will to be done we can only conclude that the defeat of the amendment was destined, as willed by God. So now it’s official, the only entities that wish for failure by American’s in Iraq are Democrats in Congress, the far left and the terrorists. Even God told Reid to shove it.
