Bloggers Fact Check Distortions In ABC Palin Interview

Is This Where Charlie Gibson is Headed?
So sad. I actually like Charlie Gibson. I always thought of him as well rounded and usually fair although he has had his moments that made me scratch my head. But after the latest excerpts surrounding his Sarah Palin interview I am beginning to wonder why I ever gave him the benefit of the doubt. If the rest of the interview is as balanced as the excerpts then I will have to consider that he may be no different than all the other low rent yet high priced actors faking objectivity in the name of the news.
I didn’t catch the excerpts from the interview but it is clear by the reactions of bloggers doing some fact checking that Gibson took Palin’s quotes out of context, was condescending in his attitude toward her and actually relied on the Associated Press as a source for her words.
I will direct you to Michelle Malkin, the Corner and Hot Air for the low down. The following example is what you can expect as reported by Malkin:
GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?
What she actually said:
“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God,” she exhorted the congregants. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”
Allahpundit rips Gibson:
Totally untrue, but that’s what he gets for relying on the Associated Press, which took the liberty of bowdlerizing her quote mid-sentence in order to make it fit the narrative they were trying to build of her as some fundie who thinks she can read God’s mind. Here’s my post on the subject from last Thursday. Read it and see just how egregious the distortion here is.
I’m not surprised. But Charlie Gibson is supposed to be better than this.
Many in the media seem to be victims of their own prisons, exhibiting some sort of Stockholm Syndrome like effect where the fantastical machinations of their left wing peers is affecting their ability to think in clear objective terms. Sadly I fear that their current hope of rescue is no better than that of Carter’s attempt to rescue the hostages from Iran.
Perhaps Sarah Palin can help lead them out of their cells.

Ok, that hat is HILARIOUS. Charlie Gibson is a tool. “Hubris?” because she said she’s confident? What was she supposed to say, “you’re right Charlie, I don’t know what John McCain was thinking. I’m just a poor little woman, I couldn’t possibly be the president” while properly fainting on the settee? GIVE ME A BREAK. why don’t these people just do what they want to do to her, stick her in a corsette and chain her to her stove in her kitchen. At least it would be honest.
Indeed NewsBusters reveals that the ABC interview was edited to make Palin look dumb, inexperienced, and hawkish – a gross manipulation worthy of Dan Rather’s fevered brain.
