Be Part of a Grass Roots Movie Effort

I just got a reminder email from the folks behind Indoctrinate U - Our Education, Their Politics, a funny, scary look inside American Universities. The movie’s producers are still trying to get the movie picked up in movie theaters nationwide. While the movie industry is thrilled to promote Michael Moore’s siCKO, which advocates a leftist viewpoint, they’re refusing to touch Indoctrinate U, which argues against precisely that view.

The refusal to touch the movie extends beyond the fact that Moore has a reputation that precedes him, making marketing easier, and seems to tie into the fear of providing a forum, not for hate filled views, but for opposing views. In the media world, you can promote Global Warming scenarios, but not counter scenarios. And you can sell films that push a liberal viewpoint, but not a conservative one. You’d think the incredible popularity of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ might have taught the entertainment biz not to underestimate the conservatism of the paying American public. I guess that the real story is that you can never underestimate the ideological stubbornness of the entertainment industry.

Anyway…. The movie’s producers are attempting to push their way past the distribution barrier by getting a grassroots campaign going from ordinary citizens asking that the movie be screened in their community. Go to the Indoctrinate U website, watch the trailer and, if you like it or feel its important that it get wider play, follow the “take action” link.
