Just an hour’s drive from the main Olympic attractions in Beijing, Badaling is in many ways a typical Chinese zoo.

Next to the main slaughter arena is a restaurant where families can dine on braised dog while watching cows and goats being disembowelled by lions.

The zoo also encourages visitors to “fish” for lions using live chickens as bait. For just £2, giggling visitors tie terrified chickens onto bamboo rods and dangle them in front of the lions, just as a cat owner might tease their pet with a toy.”

Zoos like this make me want to boycott everything Chinese,” says Emma Milne, star of the BBC’s Vets In Practice. “I’d like to rip out everything in my house that’s made in China. I have big problems with their culture. “If you enjoy watching an animal die then that’s a sad and disgusting reflection on you.

When she spotted yobs vandalising a war memorial garden, Julie Lake sprang into action.

As the daughter of a Second World War RAF pilot – and granddaughter of one of the fallen in the 1914-18 war – she felt it was her duty to intervene. But, after giving the main culprit a talking- to and a ‘cuff round the ear’, she finds herself facing the prospect of being arrested for assault.

Yesterday Mrs Lake accused police of failing to follow up her complaints about graffiti and other hooliganism in the memorial garden.

“The memorial is a sacred place – it’s like a grave,” said the 50-year-old.

“How dare these youngsters tarnish the memories of those who made a sacrifice for future generations?

“I’ve called the police and I’ve tried to talk to these kids, but I’ve got nowhere.

“I lost my temper in complete frustration after two years of patiently trying to get something done and immediately the police are after me. It’s ridiculous.

“I did not go up to these boys intending to hit anyone but they when they started shouting abuse at me and my husband, Peter, who is recovering from cancer, I just snapped.”

She said that 15 youths surrounded her and mockingly asked if her husband, who was in their car, was going to rescue her.

“I saw red and gave the ringleader a slap on the cheek,” she added. “He was just laughing and said ‘That’s assault’.

The lady did the right thing after being treated like this by these losers. IMHO they should be the front line in the next war so we weed them out first ’cause you can’t count on them to defend the country so they would just be at home using up valuable resources. It’s the state of the education system that doesn’t teach the history and sacrifices of past generations.

“My family told me never to shrink from a challenge and although I don’t condone what I did, I hope some good comes out of it.”

This is the only thing she did wrong, capitulating to political correctness. If it was me, I’d condone what I did and threaten them with repeated beatings until it stopped. I’d get a group of like-minded civilians and hunt down every one of them trashing that memorial. Naw, just kiddin’, all that has to be done is for the coppers to catch a few of these dudes in the act and prosecute them fully so their parents have to pay big $$ to rectify the situation.

Gas-masked man spooks Annie Lennox at Boulder concert:

(dailycamera.com) University of Colorado police are looking into an incident at Macky Auditorium on Tuesday night during which a man, dressed in a black cape and wearing a gas mask, approached the stage where British singer Annie Lennox was performing and frightened her into retreating backstage.

That’s funny, I thought Libs were supposed to be “tolerant” of others weirdness or oddity.

Lennox, in a Wednesday blog posting on her official Web site, described the incident as “really freakish and disturbing, whatever the hell it was.”

That’s not the only thing she wrote on her blog. The F-bomb was dropped and it seems really funny that she thinks she can be as strange as she wants for all of these years and then gets upset be another just appearing in a gas mask. Maybe her performance stank? stunk? and that was the reason the mask was needed.

Oh well, another celebrity hypocrite.

Yep, I’ve had to make a Chinese poisoning category for the high number incidents from China. Why the heck do we have to buy products from this country in the first place? Look below for today’s sometimes laughable but potentially dangerous products made in China…

• A Beijing factory recycled used chopsticks and sold up to 100,000 pairs a day without any form of disinfection.
• Chinese-made blankets containing high levels of formaldehyde have been recalled across Australia and New Zealand
• Retailer Toys “R” Us said on Friday it removed all Hamco Inc.’s vinyl baby bibs
• American bottlers of apple juice have been using concentrate from China in the production of their apple juice for the past five years.

I guess it will take a full blown outbreak of some exotic bacteria or sickness from chemicals to catch the attention of most people as they really just go to work each day and don’t think twice about the seafood they just picked up from the store. As for me, I will not buy anything from China unless there isn’t an American equivalent or it is made from a first world location. The other day I went to Home Depot to purchase a Crescent-type wrench and noticed that the “Husky” brand was a couple of dollars cheaper and marked “China”. Then I looked at the “Crescent” brand and noticed it was only a couple of bucks more but the handle had been dipped in sponge rubber for comfort and it was clealy marked “USA”. Well that settled it for me, I grabbed the American one and off I went. I wonder how many of you scrutinize the same way.

OK, let me get this straight. The society that radical Muslims don’t respect are going to knight Salman Rushdie whom radical Muslims don’t respect. So why are they getting so upset?

Because that’s what they do….:

• In neighbouring Iran a non-governmental organisation, the Committee of Glorification of the Martyrs of the Islamic Movement, said it was increasing its reward for killing Rushdie to 150,000 dollars from 100,000 dollars. (Oh, I’m sure THAT will get the job done)
• Iranian government officials have been slightly more reserved in their reaction, although foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini has condemned the award and said it was a clear sign of “Islamaphobia”. (Say what?)
• Religious Affairs Minister Ijaz-ul-Haq on Monday said the award for Rushdie justified suicide attacks, prompting outrage in Britain, although he later withdrew the remark. (Good thing, don’t want to look too radical here now)

Ahh, the “religion of peace” in action, so tolerant, so loving.

Letting the Shah of Iran into the country for medical care directly caused the wild-eyed fanaticism that Iran is today. Carter as a President was a huge failure.

Great comeback: The White House on Saturday had dismissed Carter after the remarks as “increasingly irrelevant.”

(Bloomberg) — Visitors to the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa won’t find the Gideon Bible in the nightstand drawer. Instead, on the bureau will be a copy of “An Inconvenient Truth,’’ former Vice President Al Gore’s book about global warming.

I’ve been past this Earth-worshiping joint as I stayed next door at the Carbon Footprint Inn (Residence Inn) one weekend. There was only a car or two (non-hybrids, BTW) so this place is needin’ all the promotin’ it can get. It’s one ugly place to boot, a series of concrete boxes not half as attractive as it’s website of Napa scenery.

“American Canyon slashed Gaia’s transient occupancy tax by $1 million over three years. Anderson waived a $100,000 environmental impact fee, in part because a green hotel may encourage tourists to stay longer, said Scott Morgan, city manager. ”

What?! A liberal taking a tax cut?! Shouldn’t he feel guilty about that? Shouldn’t he have to add that fee to a fund to help other businesses try and go green? Guess that if Libs had their way they’d only tax the Right… It’s all B.S..

The Hotel is not in Napa, it’s in American Canyon - an industrial town of wrecking yards on highway 29 running through Vallejo on the way to the wine country, if you choose to go that way. I usually go via 37 through Sonoma and past the Infineon Raceway where there’s usually an event goin’ on, and it’s a much more scenic drive. It’s interesting that on the website for the Gaia under “Napa Valley Destinations” the racetrack and NASCAR are prominently featured. Liberal hypocrisy? You decide, but like I said Global warming is a new world religion.
