After reading some of the suggestions from the Iraq Study Group with regard to Israel I am falling into a deep depression. Of course all of these “suggestions” fall in line with what the democrats have wanted all along. i.e. - The United States presence in the Middle East will collapse like folding chairs and Israel will cease to exist.
As I read the reports I was thinking isn’t this the “Iraq Study Group”? What the hell does Israel have to do with the “Iraq Study Group”. If they were going to assess more than Iraq, why not call themselves the “Middle East Study Group”?
Anyway, I will admit that the report does not flat out suggest that Israel should simply go away; but the “suggestions” that have been made will erode Israel nonetheless.
Are we all supposed to believe that the surrounding terrorist nations will all of a sudden play nice with the West and Israel? They see Israel as just one of the problems - followed very closely by that itching problem with the United States.
Here are a few excerpts from the the “Iraq Study Group”, that I find troubling:
A verifiable cessation of Syrian aid to Hezbollah and the use
of Syrian territory for transshipment of Iranian weapons and aid to Hezbollah. (This step would do much to solve Israel’s problem with Hezbollah.)
A verifiable cessation of arms shipments from or transiting through Syria for Hamas and other radical Palestinian groups.
Yes, that is right, we can trust Syria, Hamas, and Hezbollah and other “radicals” to give up arms and certainly not obtain any from the black market. What a joke.
A Syrian commitment to help obtain from Hamas an acknowledgment of Israel’s right to exist.
What planet are these people on? Surely, they are not on my planet because I know, yes, I know for a fact that Syria, Iran, and the rest of the terrorist elements in the Middle East will never acknowledge Israel’s right to exist. They don’t even accept our right to exist as a non-Muslim society so why would anyone expect them to accept Israel? Are they really this clueless?
Just today it was reported that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad “has warned Western leaders to follow the path of God or “vanish from the face of the earth”“. For those without a clue he means their God, not ours or yours, or for you lib’s, not even your right not to believe in God! Ladies, get your burqa’s, our government is making it easy for these to become the latest mandatory fashion craze.
In exchange for these actions and in the context of a full and secure peace agreement, the Israelis should return the Golan Heights, with a U.S. security guarantee for Israel that could include an international force on the border, including U.S. troops if requested by both parties.
Like Israel is going to believe us; the guys that are giving up on the fight against terrorism. What ever happened to not negotiating with terrorists? Isn’t that our official stance? Doesn’t it stand for anything anymore?
RECOMMENDATION 17: Concerning the Palestinian issue, elements of that negotiated peace should include:
Adherence to UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338 and to the principle of land for peace, which are the only bases for achieving peace.
Been there, done that.
Strong support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority to take the lead in preparing the way for negotiations with Israel.
Yes, this is what we want. We want to support a terrorist government in the hope that they will be peaceful with their neighbor, Israel. Excuse me, Mr. Baker, pass that bong over here when you get done with it please.
A major effort to move from the current hostilities by consolidating the cease-fire reached between the Palestinians and the Israelis in November 2006.
Has anybody been keeping count on the number of ceasefires that have fallen apart over there despite our best efforts?
Support for a Palestinian national unity government.
Does this unity government include Hamas? If so what should be our stance when they fail to honor the agreements laid in place? Do we treat them as terrorists again or are they an officially recognized government at this point?
Time after time we have seen our government officials play Lucy the ball holder to Charlie Brown the kicker. When are they going to get serious about confronting the problems with the Middle East instead of kicking it down the road in some sort of perpetual struggle that serves little more than to fuel the military industrial complex and provide jobs for old timers from administrations past?
