The memorial planners obviously had good intentions and I am quite certain that many were not aware of the underhanded examples of what I consider to be tasteless attempts to play politics with the victims of 9/11. Unfortunately the case is not an isolated incident and many have taken the opportunity to use the anniversary of 9/11 as an occasion to bash Bush on all fronts. (Yes, I am also aware that Democrats have attacked Bush for politicizing the event which I don’t think he did)

While there are definitely Republicans that don’t agree with Iraq I have yet to see a huge contingent of them uses the anniversary as a springboard to level such criticisms. (I personally haven’t seen any although I am sure there are some).

My comments are directed at the Democrat party because like it or not the people who are responsible for this and other such “hijackings” as I put it constitute the core of the Democrat Party base. Democrats in Congress have and have had diaries on the Daily Kos, they have been active on all sorts of blogs such as MyDD and the Huffington Post and they can not disassociate themselves from those whom they are reaching out to. Attending the Daily Kos convention, making key note addresses and disseminating talking points through these blogs are many such examples.

I believe the Democrats have made a huge strategic error in this case. They have forsaken the center for angry bloggers who may get a lot of attention on the Internet but likely don't represent older Democrats who simply have a different code of honor.

Hey, I wish it weren’t true. It is no picnic in the Republican Party. I have stated many times that I disagree with them on spending, the Mexican border and a spate of other issues. The Iraq war however is not one of those things. The prosecution leaves much to be desired but there is no doubt in my mind that going in was the right thing to do (please don’t debate me on this Point. I know that you do not agree with me on this and I have little time to go over many articles that I have written about this already).

You can’t just disassociate the Democrat Party from these people when the connections are there for all to see.

I've heard there are Republicans that don't agree with the war in Iraq either. Just because a handful of notes on the memorial were "hijacked" by disrespectful citizens doesn't mean you have to associate the group with the Democratic party.
