Anarchists Celebrate the Fourth in their Own Special Way

ParadeMost Americans celebrated the July 4th holiday in a uniquely American way with their family and friends. Fireworks, parades and cookouts marked the celebration that honors the sacrifices made to maintain our freedom and independence from foreign rule.

Many look back at the day as a celebration that only honors a historic Declaration made in 1776 but we must remind ourselves that the Declaration of Independence is much more than that. The battle to remain free is a constant one that has endured many sacrifices and challenges throughout our short history.

One such challenge is found in the defense of the country from the growing rot of anarchists, Berkley bred communists, and a pool of self appointed protectors of the “public trust” whose warped sense of patriotism involves divulging classified National Defense secrets, flag burning and the imposition of International Law on our sacred country.

The California IndyBay chapter of IndyMedia celebrated the fourth in their own special way. The anarchist celebratory plan amounts to imposing themselves on others much the same as the hapless morons that turn up in protest at fallen soldier’s funerals.

On the Fourth of July, patriotic Americans everywhere celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, cookouts, and time with their families. This year, some celebrations will be interrupted by reminders that the United States does not give freedom to everyone. Anarchists and other radicals celebrate the 4th, but one activity that they enjoy was nearly made illegal this summer: burning the American flag. An amendment backed by the Bush administration to give Congress the power to “ban desecration of the American flag” received 66 votes with 34 against, just missing the two-thirds margin required for passage. Read more Local Representatives Tom Lantos of San Mateo and Richard Pombo of Tracy had voted in favor of the amendment.

Many people were relieved at the amendment’s failure, pointing out that criminalizing flag desecration would have been a way of taking away people’s First Amendment Rights. Others point out that “the flag flies at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, and many other prisons run by U.S. forces where prisoners are denied fundamental legal rights and are tortured and killed.” The increase in Bush-led “rallying around the flag” since 9/11 has been compared to the use of the swastika in the rise of the Fourth Reich in Germany. One poster to Indybay has called for a flag burning/solidarity celebration to be organized. Flag burnings have traditionally taken place at People’s Park at around 2pm, as well (American flags are not the only ones burned at these events).

On Monday, July 3rd, AK Press will hold its annual Fuck the 4th Sale, beginning at 4pm. Books, cds, dvds, and tshirts will all be 25% off at this worker-owned publishing and distribution warehouse. An Emergency Protest to demand an end to the U.S.-Israeli Assault On Palestinians will be held at the israeli consulate, 456 Montgomery St, on Monday at 4:30pm. Santa Cruz’s 2nd annual old time American flag burn took place on Seabright Beach to fan the raging flames of freedom.

Your freedom is imposed upon by the sick perverted anarchists and radicals whose status in my country is less than the dog crap I scooped up off the lawn in preparation for my holiday guests. They are a reminder that the fight is never ending.

Continue the Independence Day celebration by supporting the troops, Police, Fire Fighters and public servants who sacrifice to protect this country from tyranny. We need them now more than ever.
