Alleged! U.N. Report Claims That Syria Armed Terrorists in Lebanon

Finally the news is starting to come out that corroborates the claims of the United States and Israel regarding the arms smuggling operations that have been going on for some time between Syria and Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon. Of course this news doesn’t come without the typical United Nations tiptoeing campaign where they are careful to frame these reports in the context of ‘allegations’.
UNITED NATIONS (AFP) - Alleged arms smuggling into Lebanon and the possible arming of various groups there may deepen the country’s political crisis, UN chief Ban Ki-moon said in a report released here Monday.
“I am deeply worried that the political crisis in Lebanon may be deepened and exacerbated by allegations” from various sources regarding “illegal arms trafficking and the possible arming” of various Lebanese and non-Lebanese groups, he said.
He said the allegations of illegal arms smuggling across the Syrian-Lebanese border needed to be addressed and urged “all relevant parties, in particular the governments of Syria and Iran, to ensure full implementation of Security Council resolutions 1559 and 1701.”
So lets see if we can get this straight. Hezbollah terrorists abandoned weapons caches that have been discovered in Lebanon with the markings of Iran, Russia and Syria, yet the United Nations can only eke out the word alleged 8 months after the find? Some things never change.
You may not recall the weapons find because that was reported almost 8 months ago in a piece from the Telegraph UK titled Israel humbled by arms from Iran. Shouldn’t that be “allegedly humbled”?
Abandoned Hizbollah positions in Lebanon yesterday revealed conclusive evidence that Syria - and almost certainly Iran - provided the anti-tank missiles that have blunted the power of Israel’s once invincible armour.
After one of the fiercest confrontations of the war, Israeli forces took the small town of Ghandouriyeh, east of the southern city of Tyre, on Sunday evening, hours before a ceasefire brokered by the United Nations took effect.

Beyond no-man’s land, in the east of the village, was evidence of Syrian-supplied hardware. In a garden next to a junction used as an outpost by Hizbollah lay eight Kornet anti-tank rockets, described by Brig Mickey Edelstein, the commander of the Nahal troops who took Ghandouriyeh, as “some of the best in the world”.
To make matters worse Hezbollah terrorists are claiming that they have magically replenished the rockets that were used up during the last conflict while Syria amasses large numbers of troops and weapons along its southern border.
Syria has spent the past few months constructing and moving infrastructure to its southern border that could be used to launch a war against Israel, senior defense officials have told The Jerusalem Post.
According to the officials, the Syrian military - while restricted in the number of troops it is allowed to deploy along the border - has moved military infrastructure, including fuel depots, closer to the frontier. The Syrians have also built structures in the area that could serve as weapons stores and military bases.
“There is no doubt that something out of the ordinary is taking place on the Syrian side of the border,” a high-ranking official said.
The U.N. plays the part of clueless diplomats in blunting the truth about Syria and Iran’s involvement in waging proxy war against Israel from under the dark cover of illegal arms trafficking. No wonder they wanted Bolton out of there; he was one of the few straight talkers. In fact the United Nations sent an observer to the area in what appears to be an effort to contradict the claims of Israeli defense officials. (h/t Right Truth, The American Israeli Patriot)
The commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), deployed in Israel and Syria and responsible for maintaining the cease-fire between the two countries, told the Post in an interview that he had not noticed any military changes on the ground. “From our point of view the situation is quiet and there is no indication from our side that anything has changed in last weeks or months,” Maj.-Gen. Wolfgang Jilke said in a phone interview from Syria.
Let’s not be coy here, observe is all the United Nations does nowadays while terrorists wreak havoc on the world.
What isn’t disputed is the fact that Hezbollah has magically managed to arm themselves despite the validity of “allegations”. This is so stupid.
Ban’s report, the fifth such semi-annual study since resolution 1559 was adopted, also stated that Hezbollah’s arms “continue to pose a key challenge to the (Lebanese) government’s monopoly on the legitimate use of force and all efforts to reassert Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.”
I think its time that the word “alleged’ is dropped from these reports. It only adds cover for those who want to make Israel out as the evil regime when in fact Iran and Syria have teamed up with terrorists to destroy Israel and concurrently strike a blow against the United States. The only thing that should be alleged is the United Nations objectivity.
Update: I missed this gem in the original reports but found it on Alert Net with the Reuters report on the words of UN chief Ban Ki-moon.
He also said that there was a growing threat from armed “extremist Islamist groups” who have found safe haven in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
Yet another surprise. Not.
