Absolut Apologizes a Bit Too Late, I Already Purchased My Ketel One

Ketel One vs AbsolutThis one is pretty funny. Some people just don’t get it. Despite the media whitewash of American attitudes toward illegal immigration it is obvious that many are very concerned about the issue. Worse, the constant pandering to Mexicans and liberal Americans that A.) Don’t understand history and B.) Think Mexico deserves part of the United States back in an ill fated effort to return Mexican borders to a pre Mexican-American war configuration simply doesn’t fly too well for true Americans, i.e. most of us.

So when Absolut Vodka decided to run an ad touting such a repatriation it stared an internet firestorm that saw Absolut first defend their stupidity before they realized what an Absolut mistake it was to insult the American public; thus an Apology ensued.

Head on over to Michelle Malkin to see the whole controversy as it brewed over the weekend.

We apologize

Posted Sunday, April 06, 2008, 7:38:29 PM

During the weekend we have received several comments on the ad published in Mexico. We acknowledge the reactions and debate and want to apologize for the concerns this ad caused. We are truly sorry and understand that the ad has offended several persons. This was not our intention. The ad has been withdrawn as of Friday April 4th and will not be used in the future.

In no way was the ad meant to offend or disparage, or advocate an altering of borders, lend support to any anti-American sentiment, or to reflect immigration issues.

To ensure that we avoid future similar mistakes, we are adjusting our internal advertising approval process for ads that are developed in local markets.

This is a genuine and sincere apology,

By Paula Eriksson, VP Corporate Communications, V&S Absolut Spirits

Of course this apology came after Absolut tried to defend itself with the liberal notion of diversity and all that good stuff that goes along with the open borders initiative. Code Word Alert: a diversity defense is code for people who want to shut down the voices of pro border enforcement people with the “if you don’t understand our diversity seeking needs you are a …” (insert any variation of the following racist, xenophobe, hate monger, anti-immigrant, …) ” who likes to hurt children and separate families” type label.

Absolut Mexico Reconquista

For me the apology came way too late. I had already purchased my bottle of Ketel One and couldn’t be any happier. For me it’s a toss up between Absolut and Ketel One so if my dollars can make a difference then a celebration is at hand.

For some fun pass the time reading you ought to stop by the Absolut site and browse the comment section that goes along with the apology; all 17 pages of them!

Here’s a sampler of the sentiment that forced the company to try multiple stabs at a defense:

Oh to have been a fly on the wall when that Mexican agency dreamed this up…or others in the chain of command approved it. Not only are we Americans outraged and offended, but we’re also not stupid. Your quote is **exactly** what was intended in order to play to your Mexican market.

I doubt there is any more laughter in that agency or in your board room now.

News of this outrageous ad is spreading like wildfire in the U.S….as is the list of all products carried by your new parent company, which will be boycotted as well. Your American market is toast.

And here is one of the defenders of Absolut, note the name, not very Mexican:

You people, with your rediculous comments, why don’t you take issue with the real problems that are going on in this country! You could start with your asshole president and his nazi cronies, or maybe your “war” which has and will take your fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, sons, daughters and last but not least you freedoms!! If I owned the company I’d tell you all to go fuck yourself!(While it still is a free country)

Ah, I love sipping Ketel One while pondering the moronic comments of the American left. Bottoms up!!
