ABC News Report – Iraq Surge Working, Congressional Report – Democrats Still Seek Surrender

ABC News is reporting that the situation in Iraq had started to improve enough that children are coming back out to play and shoppers are coming back out to shop. So naturally Democrats continue to spin just the opposite message in apparent solidarity with the terrorists hopes.
One thing is certain: The security situation in Baghdad has improved enough that the Iraqi government is going to shorten the capital’s imposed curfew.
Residents will be allowed on the streets until 10 p.m., which adds two hours to the cutoff time that existed when U.S. and Iraqi troops began neighborhood sweeps in February.
While Baghdad is still rocked by car bombs every day, a small area of relative calm has emerged in the city center, thanks to the stepped-up U.S. patrols and increased Iraqi checkpoints.
While it remains dangerous for Westerners to travel out of doors in the city, ABC’s Terry McCarthy has spent the past week visiting five Baghdad neighborhoods where the locals said life is slowly coming back to normal. - ABC News
Despite these reports you can always count on the Democrats to try and snatch defeat from Victory.
The President today asked the American people to trust him as he continues to follow the same failed strategy that has drawn our troops further into an intractable civil war. The President’s policies have failed and his escalation endangers our troops and hurts our national security. – Senator Harry Reid
So let me get this straight. When Senator Reid isn’t busy securing land deals that make his family rich he is working to defund the troops in Iraq, give the enemy a timetable for U.S. surrender . Concurrently democrats are working to undermine an apparently successful troop surge which is still a work in progress.
Tea, Clothing and an Amusement Park
McCarthy visited Haifa Street, otherwise known as “Sniper Street,” as it has long been considered one of the most dangerous parts of the city.
Now, people who live on Haifa Street say the violence is subdued enough that they can venture back onto the street. At one tea shop a group of men actually asked the ABC News crew to film them to show life as it returns to normal.
And the improved conditions are already starting to benefit business, according to one shop owner. “When people heard that it was safe they started coming out and spending money again,” said Baghdad store owner Hussein Jihad.
Other signs of improvements: a mosque in Zayouna that was fire-bombed is now open for prayer, and Baghdad’s biggest amusement park in Zawra is open again.
“It’s safe here,” said 12-year-old Abdullah. “There used to be some bullets, but not anymore.”
Nobody knows if the small safe zone will expand or get swallowed up again by violence. But for the time being, people here are happy to enjoy a life that looks almost normal.
Of course the terrorists are probably watching the same ABC news report as it appeared on Nightline so who knows what will happen in that area next but we can always hope for the best. Unless of course you are are a Democrat in Congress who has put a stake in an American loss.
“In the face of the administration’s stubborn unwillingness to change course, the Senate has no choice but to force a change of course,” said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., who signed on Monday as a co-sponsor of Reid’s proposal with Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis. – Houston Chronicle
Thanks lurch, and while you are at it why don’t you just saddle up next to Jane Fonda the next time you want to drum up support for Reid and Feingold?
Meanwhile John Murtha continues his quest to fill the military with the ranks of anti-war leftists by proposing a draft yet again.
Meanwhile another vocal war critic — Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha — says he wants to reinstate the draft. Murtha told CNN: “We’d do it by lottery, and we’d call everybody up. I think we have a citizen’s army is what it ought to be, not just a volunteer professional army.” – Fox News
Let me guess, a bigger military translates to more money for someone closely related to the former unindicted Abscam co-conspirator.
The news on Iraq is an important story. The surge demonstrates that it is possible to bring relative peace to the area. Naturally the terrorists and their backers in Syria, Iran and Pakistan will want to step up their efforts to keep that from happening. You would think the Democrats would have a minimal amount of understanding on this very basic front and I’m sure they do. Hence one can only come up with the conclusion that Democrats hope for the worst and that they will do anything to secure a loss.
Imagine a world where democrats in Congress actually did something to win the war rather than intentionally try to lose it? Now that would be news.
