Harry Reid appeared alongside Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to mark their accomplishments from their first 6 months in Congress with a new slogan draping the background, “Delivering on America’s Priorities”.
That slogan of course is a new promise because up to now the Democrats haven’t delivered on much of anything other than increasing minimum wage. The failed immigration reform bill is simply the exclamation point that caps off 6 months of failure and empty promises. What better way to celebrate this lack of accomplishment than falling back on an Iraq surrender plan?
When Reid took the podium he launched a volley of lies and half truths. He whipped out everything from the same old Democrat play book from Katrina to “The Culture of Corruption”. He even mentioned the discredited Lancet study of 600,000 killed in Iraq. More proof that when they don’t have any facts to rely on the Democrats will simply make the numbers up.
Perhaps the most unbelievable theme that came out of both Reid and Pelosi’s collective mouths (today) is that Republicans prevented the Democrats from meeting the promises they made to the vapid nutroots that put them in charge. This makes me yearn for the good ol’ days when Reid and Pelosi were making the same speech from in front of the MSM cameras, only back then they couldn’t deliver on their weaken America first agenda because Republicans were in charge. Now that the Dems are in charge Republicans are still to blame according to them. This my friends is a look into the minds of the Keystone Dems. What a pathetic bunch of losers.
The following video clips highlight key sections of the Democrat press conference.
One would think that Democrats would want to ride to victory in 2008 based on the accomplishments of what they did after taking control of Congress. Surely that would be a platform to run on. But instead they are going to have to fall back on the tried and true blame Republicans game due to the Democrats own ineptitude as leaders. I’m still waiting for them to implement that plan that Schumer, Pelosi, Reid and Durbin marketed for years leading up to the last election. Come to think of it I can’t remember what that plan actually is.
The following lies and half truths were covered in Reid’s dull speech.
Lie: President Bush vetoed “stem cell research”
-
Wrong, President Bush vetoed embryonic stem cell research. It was actually Democrats who killed a non-embryonic Stem cell research bill that certainly would already be funding research in the only form of stem cell research that actually has shown results. Yet the lies continue from Democrats who are intentionally letting people suffer just to make a political point. In this respect they are no better than Saddam Hussein. Embryonic stem cell research is the Democrats version of Hussein’s oil for food scam. They are perpetuating the myth that Republicans are blocking stem cell research while simultaneously blocking advances in the non-embryonic form of SCR all for affect. Republicans would gladly fund forms of stem cell research that doesn’t destroy embryos.
Lie: Democrats funded Katrina relief for the first time despite the President’s objections.
-
Katrina has been one of the most heavily funded natural disaster in U.S. history. To top it off the disaster was made worse by the inept Democrats who were running the show both locally and statewide.
By Sept. 8, Pres. Bush had requested and Congress had approved more than $62 bil in emergency spending for hurricane relief. - History.com
At President Bush’s urging, the U.S. Senate quickly approved $10.5 billion in aid for victims September 1, 2005. The U.S. House of Representatives voted and approved on the measure Friday, September 2, 2005 without any debate. President Bush requested an additional $51.8 billion on September 7. Congress approved that funding package the next day. - Wikipedia
See many of the other sources of funding that has been provided by the government. These Democrats who lie about Katrina are snake oil salesmen of the worst kind.
Lie: Republican’s won’t let Democrats reform ethics.
-
Neither side of the aisle has demonstrated that they want to reform Congress in any meaningful way. While the Democrats point to republicans they conveniently ignore their own scandals such as Obama’s ties to indicted mobster Tony Rezko, William Jefferson’s refrigerator full of cash, Diane Feinstein’s profiteering with her husband on war contracts or even Reid’s own corrupt land deals. This is a very short list. Until Reid and Pelosi put their money where their mouth is and actually look at corruption on both sides of the aisle I suggest that nobody believe a word that comes out of their mouths.
Lie: 9/11 Commission recommendations, 3 years in waiting
-
What Harry Reid fails to mention in this diatribe is the well known fact that Democrats rejected and stalled progress on recommendations coming from the 9/11 panel.
It was a solemn pledge, repeated by Democratic leaders and candidates over and over: If elected to the majority in Congress, Democrats would implement all of the recommendations of the bipartisan commission that examined the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
But with control of Congress now secured, Democratic leaders have decided for now against implementing the one measure that would affect them most directly: a wholesale reorganization of Congress to improve oversight and funding of the nation’s intelligence agencies. Instead, Democratic leaders may create a panel to look at the issue and produce recommendations, according to congressional aides and lawmakers.
[~snip]
“Of all our recommendations, strengthening congressional oversight may be among the most difficult and important,” the panel wrote. “So long as oversight is governed by current congressional rules and resolutions, we believe the American people will not get the security they want and need.”
Now Democrats are balking, just as Republicans did before them. - WaPo
Lie: Democrats tried to fund the troops in Iraq but President Bush prevented it.
-
Everybody knows that Democrats played games with funding the troops. Their repeated attempts to hold back funding unless it came attached with strings that would have resulted in American defeat was unpalatable to a majority of Americans. Yes, Americans want out of Iraq but not at the tremendous cost of turning the country over to al-Qaeda. This talking point about Democrats supporting the war and Republicans failing to fund it is the most blatant attempt to revise history since Democrats took the leadership. Shameful would be polite.
Lie: Republicans prevented Immigration reform.
-
Republicans and Democrats alike succumbed to the will of the American people. Harry Reid is trying to frame his legislative loss as the result of Republican opposition when it was in fact the result of an informed electorate that practically shut down Congressional switchboards in opposition. It was a power to the people moment and Reids revisionist memory can’t take that away.
There was one final clip after the speech that I thought was quite informative. Our elected leaders continue to ignore polls that show the amazing amount of disgust that Americans have in the establishment’s leadership. Polls were fine when they backed Democrat talking points but suddenly they aren’t reputable and don’t really indicate what Americans think about their performance when they shed bad light on Dems.
The following paraphrased Q&A was captured on the video clip. Note how elitist and dishonest these people are even when responding to the simplest of questions.
Q: How concerned are you about low Congressional Poll ratings?
A: Reid - Not worried about Polls, numbers looking good, it’s Bush’s fault
A: Pelosi - Unhappy with Congress because of obstructionist Republicans. Congress has never been poplar.
That’s right, Congress has never been popular. What sort of sense does that make? The poll says that Congressional approval is at one of the nations all time lows. Let’s say for arguments sake that Congress never reaches even 50% approval. Would that change the fact that approval rankings in the 20 percentile show a larger degree of disapproval than higher polls? No. This is just silly and indicates that Americans probably got it wrong once again. Note that Democrats are falling back on their own internal polls that show they are doing just peachy! (As they say, when you don’t like a poll keep changing the question until you get the answer you do like!)
Finally, note that Pelosi says that everybody wants a new President to succeed. Funny, she stood alongside the rest of the Democrats as lead obstructionist even before President Bush took office. But then I expect a Democrat to rate success in terms of failure.
We need to keep pushing these people out until Americans get a Congress that at least a majority of people approve of, no matter how slim. That is a priority that everyone can agree on.

Very nice. I love it when the truth is revealed. Reid says “we’ve delivered some very good things for the American people” That’s a laugh.
Thanks for the kind words and e-card. I’m feeling good, just very sore. Hubby and I were at the hospital listening to a radio with headphones, to find out the result of the immigration vote. We were extremely pleased.
