If you noticed I have been a little quiet this past week and it is because I have been in southern Florida on vacation.
This past Saturday night I was sitting in a very crowded outside grass roof bar with some friends in Naples, Fla. which overlooks the Gulf of Mexico. The Sun was setting on a perfect day with clear blue skies and a temperature of about 80 degrees when a middle aged couple approached our table and asked if they could join us as we had the only empty chairs in the bar.
Their names where Peter and Rita from London, England and it was their first time visit to this area. After a little bit of small talk Peter asked me for a recommendation for nice dinner restaurant. (How does that saying go? Always ask a portly guy where to get good food.)
After a few brews I just couldn’t resist asking Peter and Rita about the Muslim riots in England and Europe. This is what they had to say…….

I ran across an article tonight that was actually published about two months ago but it still merits comment due to the unparalleled arrogance of the author. Apparently, some head-case named Linda Hirshman is upset that modern women would actually decide on their own to be stay at home mothers. (gasp!) In her discussion of this topic, Ms. Hirshman laments the fact that women are even allowed to have the choice to stay home with their children.
As she told Good Morning America:
“I am saying an educated, competent adult’s place is in the office.”

It’s not that Olympic medals have any real importance, but I am proud of the accomplishments of the American team. Last time I looked, the team had come in 2nd in the overall medals total. That contrasts with the years past, when the US was lucky to win anything in the Winter Games.
So one has to wonder why our team was saddled with a poseur by the name of Bode Miller. Bode, rhymes with Jody, came to the games bragging about how he really didn’t care if he won anything or not, and left the games empty-handed and hung over.

It’s nice to know that having the honor of being in the Olympics and representing your country means little to some. On behalf of all the skiers who wanted to be there in your place, hats off to you Bode. We couldn’t have lost without you.

The U.S. House is on pace to set a record for the fewest days in session for any year going back to 1947. You can read a detailed description about it here. The House calendar is established by the Republican leadership and it is currently set at 96 days 2006.
Now we live in a country with a representative government and it seems to me that we are getting stiffed in the representation department. A WEEK off for President’s day? Heck, most of us in the private sector don’t even get President’s day itself. Another week for St. Patty’s, two for Easter and the sloth continues. Can our representatives offer full debate and then pass any meaningful legislation in 96 freaking days?
$162,500 yearly and some killer benefits to work slightly more than 1/4 of the year; not the same under funded social security for them. Now we realize there is travel to and from the district and occasionally some marathon workdays, but they have the other 3/4’s of the year to catch up on their rest and fundraisers.
Editor’s Note: This article exemplifies why Webloggin’s authors are some of the smartest writers on the planet. This kind of news makes me ill. We have a war against terror, soldiers working overtime to keep us safe, supposedly unsolvable differences between each aisle of Congress, record deficits, out of control spending, a faltering education system, open borders, a broken social security system and the list goes on.
Yet in these times of challenge our elected politicians have worked themselves into a work schedule and travel itinerary that is worthy of royalty. If only this was a joke. I am beginning to realize that the joke is on us.

Once again we see that the Religion of Peace means us no harm. After all, domination, submission and annihilation are virtues!

What will it take for Democrats and Republicans to wake up and get the Picture?
My question, where are the muslims who live in the U.S. that are critical of this kind of hate speech? I certainly don’t hear much more than platitudes from CAIR.
Meanwhile politicians on both sides of the aisle ride the fine line between globalization and national security; completely oblivious to the fact that a war on terror means that certain aspects of globalization may have to be put on hold for the time being.

This should surprise no one. Christians used to compose a quarter of Holy Land Arabs early in the 20th century; now they number around 1%, with most Christians emigrating to English speaking democracies to get away from their oppresors. Now the majority is trying to root out whoever is left:
The Gaza office of the Palestine Bible Society has been forced to close according to a February 14 report from Middle East Concern. The Bible Society received a letter from militants demanding that the Bible Society completely close down their operations and not reopen anywhere else in Gaza. They also demanded that the landlord evict them from the building by February 28. If these demands were not met, the letter warned, all residents should leave the building because on March 1 it would be blown up. A bomb was placed outside the office to reinforce the threat.

Prime Minister John Howard has refused Muslim calls to censure Treasurer Peter Costello over comments he made about Islamic extremists.
And Mr Costello has challenged Muslim leaders to pledge their allegiance to Australia before they criticise him over his comments about citizenship.
Muslim leaders have called for Mr Howard to censure Mr Costello over his speech last night to the Sydney Institute in which he said anyone who believed Islamic sharia law could co-exist with Australian law should move to a country where they felt more comfortable.
Islamic Friendship Association president Keysar Trad said Mr Costello had unfairly singled out Muslims and was promoting division and Islamophobia.
But Mr Howard said Mr Costello’s comments were “fundamentally accurate”.

This week I have heard numerous people make snide comments about the poor performance of the U.S. Olympic team. What exactly do these people want from our athletes?
Granted, the men’s hockey team didn’t play very well and came home empty handed and Bode Miller has become a national joke. But outside of a few pretty big disappointments, there are a lot of athletes that have represented us very well.
The women’s hockey team didn’t win a gold medal like they were expected to but they fought back and won a bronze medal that they were clearly excited to get. Despite the frustration of not getting to play for a gold medal as they had hoped, these ladies were very gracious in defeat and displayed great sportsmanship.
